Good news is that it is not a stress fracture. Apparently there is a little spur of bone on my heel but that should not have caused this.
Bad news is that they have no other suggestions - just more RICE till a GP follow up on 13th. I can't get a shoe on any more due to the swelling - it is a good job I work from home.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

I am finally starting to recover. I did get referred for an MRI but by the time the appointment came round it was finally starting to get a bit better so I cancelled. I can manage a normal looking walk now as long as I don't go too far or too fast - and as long as its a couple of hours since I did my physio exercises as they make things ache. I have had 2 physio sessions now and am booked in again on 3rd Jan - I left the last one armed with lots of kinesio tape to see me through till then.
I am still wearing a shoe with all the inners taken out and very loose lacing so no pressure is put on the damaged bits. I might try going back to a normal setup tomorrow.
Hopefully I will soon be able to walk the dogs again and eventually get back to the running but that will be done very carefully. The physio did give me the lecture on 'everyone over 35 should do strength training and not just cardio' so I need to work out what I should do differently this time round.
Final diagnosis was probable Peroneal tendonitis, also referred to as peroneal tendinopathy. Not that common but much more common in people with high arches which is me.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

Glad you are on the road to recovery.
I must admit that I do a session a week on technique and core strength etc. So in effect strength circuits in intervals. 3 sets of 6 with 40 secs sets with 20 secs rest with 2 mins rest between sets of 6.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
Phew - I had to go a long way back to find this old thread!
I have finally broken my duck and hit the roads this lunchtime after putting it off a few times. I did an experimental 4.5k on a hotel treadmill last week and suffered no ill effects after my injury at the end of November so it was time.
It was a slow and short run in biting wind and drizzle but I got out there and did 3.7k in 27 minutes. It would be fair to say that I will not be picking up where I left off on the basis of this. I probably could have done more if I had covered my ears and didn't have to get back to work.

Well done MallyGirl.
Hope that it gets easier now that you are back up and running so to speak.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
Hello everybody!
I've just run my first 5km. Natural progress is 10km. It takes my 45min to run 5km, it's a jog rather then run, but still, I'm happy and hoping to run 10km soon.0 -
well done for getting out there. It is a gorgeous day today so I will go for a run after work today - weekend was dreadful for many reasons so it will be nice to move forward and blast the cobwebs away today.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

I did a slow 6.1km (in 47 minutes) after work which went fine. Very pleased that there were no problems.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans
