We have a ceramic hob, and 5 free roaming cats, none of them have ever walked on the hot hob, they seem to be sensible enough to know not to.

For now, a cheap solution is to keep a full pan of cold water on the recently used hob plates.

That will deter the kitten/s from walking ON the hot plates as it's an obstacle + the cold water in the pan will help the hob plates to cool quicker.

Love the rug - did you make it? I used to start making rugs when I was a child... never got to the bit where I finished one and edged it :)

    They are beautiful.
The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best

Thanks all, some good suggestions. That compressed air can is definitely one to look into I think.

At lunch time (roast chicken left overs) repetition of being put back down on the floor did eventually stop one of them jumping up on the table.

They really aren't bothered if you raise your voice/clap etc and tbh I love that they're so confident. I don't want to upset that but at the same time occasionally we really do need them to stop whatever it is that they're doing.

No it was purchased. I have a love-hate relationship with the thing because it slips no matter what I do. As we're renting I don't think I can nail it to the floor :rotfl:

I did have a cat that did this , and he scorched his paws ,it was horrible.
Definitely barricade it somehow - the pots of water sounds like a good idea
Your picture made me sad , the all white one looks just like a cat I had some years ago
She used to follow me everywhere demanding to be involved in everything too ,and sulked when I went out. I think it's a personality trait with white cats

We worry about our cat doing this with the ceramic hob so we put the pans back on the hob filled with cold water. This then stops the cat accidentally stepping on a hot spot, as the pan is in the way. It also makes the pan easier to wash later on!

They're beautiful kittens by the way!
    I use this method too:)
