Your being had, bothsides when on mine over a few years A non ford sensor costs about £20 (ford part £100) & about an hours work to replace. Take it to a local garage, not a main dealer.

Back then we didn't have undertrays. But we did have underseal. Boy did we have underseal! We also had useful advice like this from the AA on how to deal with rusty sills:

Amazing to think we survived really :rotfl:

That's beautiful. My old man had that book - remember the cover. At least they do say about it only being ok if the area does not add strength.

On a Triumph Herald that might well have been acceptable. On the old bus they're working on there, almost certainly not. Trying to guess the make - something about the outward curve of the doors and trim suggests Mk2 or possibly a Mk10 Jag

It's a Mk2. The Mk10 has an additional swage line in the doors.

My father had the book too.

Early Haynes manuals have a similar section.

BTW that does sound a lot for an ABS sensor. I failed on one a year or two ago, new aftermarket sensor (for an Audi) was £4.85, took about an hour to replace though that did include destroying the old one to get it out. So you can see they might be taking into account the difficulty of removing it, but to a ridiculous extent.

I thought the same thing. I had a faulty one replaced by a main dealer and the bill was around £125 including diagnosis and recovery of the car.

The one on the other side failed a few months later and I replaced it myself. It took about as long as it takes to get the wheel off and on again and the part was around £30.
  • People keep saying that a sensor is this price and that price, its not a sensor in the wheel, its the sensor in the pump that is at fault. Taken it to a more local garage who is highly recommended. Going away for inspection next monday at a cost of £60, free if problem fixed + the 4 hours labour to remove and replace. Not sure what the final price will be but should be much cheaper than the £1300 first quoted. Will post up final price when job completed late next week.

Fair enough. In my defence, it's not at all clear in the original post that it's a sensor in the pump, and the term "ABS Sensor" is most often used to describe the sensor at the wheel. Good result, though.
