It's all very well saying "put a jumper on", but where do you draw the line? Would you expect someone to wear gloves and a scarf in their own home? What a life.

Women often feel the cold more than men - I wonder if that's the case here. https://www.sciencedump.com/content/are-women-really-colder-men
  • Instead of requesting they dress up as the Michelin man in their home, you need to suggest a better compromise about keeping it on timer as you do mention but need to focus on that.

You're renting presumably and you need to bear in mind that houses still need to be warm to protect the pipes, boiler and prevent condensation. At this time of year with drastic temperature drops one day to the next can play havoc on the pipes so you need it to be heating steadily and frequently.

As the odd one out in this situation, maybe you need to find a different housing solution. If you can't conform to the norm then a house share is probably not for you.

I leave my heating on quite often . I found it cheaper that way, and just wear t shirt and jeans in the house .. my energy bills 55 pound a month ..gas and electric.
So if theres 4 of you a fiver a week..aprox
    ??
I think people get carried away how expensive heating, when a cup of coffees 2.50 ..
Turn it up ..lives to short to wear onezies or blankets with sleaves..ha ha:):):)

You are the exception. You can buy freezer packs and place them in your pockets to cool yourself down if you are too warm in the house. If others don't object, you could totter around the house in only your underwear. I don't recommend full nakedness for health and safety reasons.

@vpeake Are you "that person" you speak of? Multiple people in the house didn't want it on, you did...you were the oddity in that group.

No, I have lived in multiple houseshares and never experienced anything like that before, to refuse to have the heating on at all in the middle of winter, even in 0 degrees is ridiculous. The house had serious damp and mould problems as a result and people were always ill. I mean if someone wants it on a lot more than normal then yes of course they should pay more. But they shouldn't have to pay extra to have it on at all.

  • For god's sake, come to an agreement or move out. Why not have it nice and comfortable? If you're too hot, open the window. Better than sitting shivering and counting little piles of coins.

  • wow. such weird responses.

if you're living in a houseshare and someone turns the heating on before putting an extra layer on, thats unreasonable.

people seem to think that if you're too hot you should 'take clothes off', or 'open a window' or 'go around with ice packs under your armpits'. frankly these people are bonkers.

people who put the heating on willy nilly without doing the sensible thing of putting more clothes on should pay more. period

What a time to turn it up.

The weather has been very mild, and despite having the thermostat on 20 for all of October, we hardly used anything. It's mostly hot water usage.

Temperature is taking a nose dive from today, get ready for statement shock.
