DFS Cushion Gap

Options
I'm looking for some advice for my sofa which I purchased last November/December via a 3 year Hitachi Finance agreement at my local DFS.

Recently I have noticed that a gap of "Grand Canyon" proportions has started to appear between both of the cushions on my 4 seater.

I'm not allowed to post links as I'm new, so find the images here: imgur.com/a/5MP7g

Having spoken to my local store, they have stated that the "goods are outwith the 2 year manufacturer guarantee", despite last November/December being a mere year ago. They are all for pricing up new cushions and billing me for the joy of replacing what is clearly poor quality product.

The sofa is incredibly uncomfortable, the cushions are loosing their oomph and it's generally just a really shoddy thing to happen. You'd think that the cushions would flatten overtime, not shrink!

On the plus side, I always know where the remote has gone....

Just to clarify, the cushion covers haven't been in the washing machine and have been carefully cleaned in situ, so it's not like I left Rick Moranis in charge of cleaning.

I've got various email addresses lined up from customer service directors to a contact at Hitachi Finance - I'd rather not have to get in to a fight to get this resolved, so I wanted to get some advice from you all.

What do I do next?

Is that long horn, snuggling down between the cushions every night? :)

Is there a lot of baggy-ness in the fabric? I.e can you pick up one corner and feel no filling? I wonder if the fibre inside has just clumped together and needs a good beating / refilling?

The seat inners look like they are made from Fibre only which are the ones you would get most problems from as they just flatten over time and no amount of puffing them up will make any difference at all.

I would recommend you go to a local re-upholstery company and ask for foam/fibre seat inners, this at least will make the sit much better for you as they have a foam insert all the way through which is usually far better than pure fibre. But if you want a much firmer sit then ask for foam seat inners. They should be able to fit them into your existing covers for you.

As for the covers measure the in arm size of the sofa and then divide by two, then measure one seat cushions across its width (pulled tight) the seat cushions should be the same if not a little wider, if it isn't and the seat cushion is smaller then they may have shrunk a little.

Or the in arms of the sofa may be collapsing its hard to tell from the images supplied.

Never buy fibre filled cushions, this will always happen eventually. Fixed foam leather every time for long life.

Looking at the pictures the right hand side (as you look at it) looks fine, almost completely up to the line, it is the left hand side that seems to have shrunk quite a bit. Is one seat sat on more often than the other? Have the covers ever been taken off and washed?

Both cushions look the same to me.
  • The simple answer is to replace you fibre filled cushion with a reflex foam substitute. The best place i have come across is a website just google thefoamshop or foam4u Fibre filled cushion compress and the interior filing mats together and is impossible to maintain unless you have an army of flunkies plumping them up after you .
  • Goolge thefoamshop or foam4u they offer a replacement service
