Car tax and v5

I need a bit of advice, I split from my girlfriend nearly 5 months ago and at the time I had a car that when bought was put into her name, the car broke down and was not worth repairing. The tax was coming from my bank account and after asking for her to change the v5 to my name and new address which she agreed to do the next day I cancelled the dd for the tax. Knowing that the tax was OK for the next month I was expecting the v5 through the post and then I could declare the car sorn. However my ex has failed to do any thing and even though I've asked her several times to change the v5 she has always failed to do so. As the tax has now been unpaid for 5 months she has now received a fine from the dvla and is saying she has notified the dvla by phone that she is not the keeper. I'm still in possession of the car and it's being kept of road but I want it gone. Am I liable for the unpaid tax or can I just apply for a new v5 and declare it sorn. Also as the car was paid for on my debit card and the tax was coming from my account does this make me liable even though my ex is still the registered keeper. Help would be great fully accepted. Thanks

She was the keeper at the time the car was untaxed, she's liable. Doesn't matter how the VED was being paid.
AFAIA, DVLA don't accept keeper change notifications by phone.
V62 as a new keeper would be your best bet.0 -
New log book is £25. If you can you get the old log book from her you can change the address and apply for sorn at the same time.

I believe the registered keeper is liable for taxing or sorning the car. DDs from your account wouldn't make you liable.

If car broken down and not worth anything i would send a letter requiring her to move the car from your premises at her cost or if she wants the car transferring to yourself then its up to her to advise dvla via the log book or by providing you with £25 so you can apply for it if shes lost it
You can enclose a v890 sorn form if you want to be the new keeper just attach it to your v62 before you post it off
You did your best its up to her now0 -
