Halogen ceiling light

I've got a halogen light fitting that's just stopped working. I've unscrewed it from the ceiling, and wired between the ceiling rose and the halogen transformer (Kaoyi KT-8022, 240v AC to 11.4v 80w) there's a small black box with no markings on it whatsoever. Does anyone know what this box could be? I'll try to add a picture later. It looks like there's power going into the unidentified box but not coming out of it, so I might need to identify it so that I can buy a replacement.

The small black box could well just be a simple terminal box for connecting the primary side of the transformer to the power input.
If it is, there should either be a screw holding it together or the top just clicks into place.0 -
Thanks, I'll have another look at it tomorrow in the daylight.0

if its 14 volt the box is a transformer, it should be warm.
this sort of thing ... http://www.toolstation.com/shop/p55497?searchstr=transformer

Thanks for the suggestions. I opened the smaller box, and as Shaun From Africa suspected it's just an enclosed terminal block. The exposed end of one of the wires had broken off in the terminal, so I stripped the wire and reconnected and the light is working again.0
