Help have I got a virus. Cpu and disk running at 100%

To all my clever friends on here, again, I need some help!

I'm not sure if I have got a virus, but my PC keeps running up to 100% disk space and CPU.

It's running horribly.

Can I have some advice of what I need to do to clean it up please?

Yes and it doesn't equate - there isn't much running that's using anything but it still adds up to 100%

    Thanks for any help x

This seems to be a problem associated with Win 10 upgrades which a lot of people have had and to fix it, you need to set the swap file.

To do this, do the following:

    1. HIT the key combination WINKEY and the R key - this will bring up the Run box

    2. Type sysdm.cpl ,3 in the box and hit enter

    3. If you are not logged on as an Administrator, it will ask you for password - type it in.

    4. When the System Properties box comes up, click the Advanced tab

    5. Click the FIRST Settings tab under Performance

    6. Click the Advanced tab

    7. Click the tab that says Change

    8. Untick the top box which says something like Automatically Manage etc etc

    9. Select Custom Size

    10. set minimum size to 50

    11. set maximum size to one and a half times your system memory - if you have 2gig RAM set it to 3000MB (3000MB = 3gig)

    12. Click OK and keep clicking OK on each box until they have all gone.

    13. Restart your system.

If you cannot do this, start your system in Safe Mode and try again.

I had similar recently with XP. svchost.exe draining the processor. Online searches pointed to microsoft searching my pc to see what MS Office updates I've had to see if I need any others. The advised option was to leave it running until its finished which takes hours. I did this but it started again weeks later so I turned off updates and no further problems.

Make sure you have selected all processes.

I definately wouldnt start changing page file settings before malware is ruled out

First, when you are looking at running processses, click the button that says "show processes from all users"

Then you will see what is using all the CPU.

Let us know what it is and we can help further.

No still no luck - I have clicked on processes from all users and not much in there.

I have Bitdefender and it keeps saying that I have to reboot due to quanrantined files as follows:

c:/windows/temp/tmp (and then various numbers after)

    Is this a virus?

THanks for ALL the help - but still running as slow as an old boot!
