Incorrect Meter Assigned to EDF Account
Options
At the beginning of the month I was notified by EDF that I have been paying for the incorrect meter.
In the national database, there are two meters with the exact same address; my flat's meter and the communal hallway's meter. Once this was realised, EDF set about updating the database (Which can take around 28 days). As of writing, I've had no further updates.
My main concern is that I also received a "notification of application for rights of entry" from SSE with the aim of installing a prepayment meter. As EDF took control of the communal hallway meter, SSE were still billing for our actual meter and expecting payment from someone. I've never had any contact with SSE and as such wasn't aware that I had an outstanding amount to be paid on an account.
I've yet to reply to SSE as EDF initially advised that they would deal with it. However after a second chat with EDF (Chasing an update), they advised that I should contact SSE. My question is, how do I approach SSE? Should I explain the situation and explain that I've not been wilfully ignoring them and refusing to pay the bill?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Very important for you to try to understand how this is going to be sorted out. Be sure to take readings from the meter which is actually feeding your property. I think you should call SSE and identify yourself as the person responsible for that meter with effect from a certain date. Presumably someone else has been paying them for it until such date.
Try to get a clean start from that date.
Eventually there will be some long-winded process to sort out whatever has happened in the past.
It depends what sort of mess there is. If you have been giving EDF the readings from the SSE meter and paying EDF, then maybe EDF will have to refund you so you can pay SSE. If EDF have been charging you for the readings from the communal meter, then whoever was paying for your electricity to SSE will no doubt want things straightened out too.
Something similar happened to my daughter a year or so back. It did take quite a long time to resolve.0 -
Thanks for the reply jbuchanangb.
I've spoken to SSE and sorted it out with them, I'm just waiting for EDF to confirm that the database has been updated. Apparently, until that is done I can't switch supplier from SSE to EDF.0
