(although your local authority may dispute your claim not to owe anything to anyone come next January ;))
  • Having paid the mortgage off i have received the title deeds ,enclosed was a letter saying You will need to instruct a solicitor to forward a Discharge of Standard Security to us if you would like our charge removed from the property .
Please could someone tell what this is and does it need to be done .Very much appreciated.
    Thanks DJM1972
  • no idea we too have received ours today but no letter like yours did someone have a charge over the property apart from the mortgage provider?
my bark is worse than my bite!!!!!!!!
  • No this letter is from the mortgage provider , had it with the one account and it is paid in full .

I don't think there's any need to get the charge removed unless you intend to borrow on the property in future. If that's unlikely to happen, I would save your money and leave the charge there.

You do need to get the charge removed because until it is removed the house is not fully yours.

  • It ranks very high on my greatest feelings in life ,nice to know that no-one can take my house away from me or my family . Seen my dad forced out of a rented house when i was 8 years old and the humiliation on his face still lives with me .This is one of the main reasons that i wanted to get rid of it and its nice to know that i will have extra in the pocket each month to do with as i want.
    Thanks to all
