ID For bank account

Options
If i have applied online for a 2nd bank account can i take ID into a branch of Santander?
I was going to take a bank statement and passport. Do they photocopy them and fax them or send them off via internal post? And do i get copy's back or do they store them somewhere?
Many thanks

We were asked to take documents when opening TSB accounts , in branch, and the lady just looked at them before entering the document descriptions on their files. (We didn't open online, as we knew we would have to take documents to a branch, after the online application.)

Nationwide, though we took documents, didn't ask for any, doing just online searches.

Have Santander asked you to take ID to a branch?

They might copy your documents but they will not retain the originals.

After applying online i received a email about 2 forms of ID would be needed so i thought it would be easier to take them into my local branch

Ring them. You'll possibly need an appointment for a branch visit to open an account.

I've already applied for an account, i was just going to take the ID in instead of sending it via the post as i thought that would be quicker. I just didn't know how they processed the copies and whether i would get them back, or they keep them somewhere safe or shred them

The account is being opened online - only the ID will be taken to the branch so IMO should be able to walk in and someone will take copies and action as needed.

I went into my local Santander branch today with my passport and my Barclays bank account statement and they were photocopied. They were then taken out the back to be faxed and i got back a transmission log

And the photocopies, were they retained or returned to you (as per your own concern)..?
    Evolution, not revolution

No they didn't return the copies. They said all copies of customers ID and personal documents would be destroyed confidentially. And that they would retain an electronic copy of ID for their records

It could vary from bank to bank policy but generally once scanned they would destroy any copies in their annual bonfire on November 5th......
