Not my debt

I've just done a credit check and found out my mother has taken out a credit card in my name recently but also other loans dating back to 2011, some of these have not been paid off so my credit score is bad. i don't want to get the law involved i just want them to be paid off asap or removed from my name to hers. She admitted to them and said she will pay them off but she hasn't paid any from 2011 so we don't believe any will get paid. Is there any thing we can do with out reporting her to the law.

This is a very awkward situation. It's technically fraud. The only way not to pay this would be to report the fraud but your mum would have to face the consequences. This isn't an easy situation at all :(
  • Thank you this is what i thought but was wondering if people had other ideas of what to do without reporting it.

The only other option is to pay this off yourself, you will have to wait 6 years for any negative information to fall off your credit report. Roughly how much money is owed on the accounts?

    Hi,

The short answer is no, there's nothing you can do.

Even if you got the law involved, actually getting someone to pay up is very difficult and time consuming, even more so if they don't actually have the money to pay you.

Your legal options would be county court and then bayliffe.

Unless your prepared to do that, then I'd just put it down to experience.

Make sure she can't do it again.

Getting the law involved wouldn't be to get the mum to pay OP back, but to offer evidence to the creditors that the debt was fraudulent, so that OPs credit record could be restored.

You need to register with CIFAS as advised below, then further checks are carried out should anyone try to take out credit in your name again.

Is there some medical reason for this, or what are the circumstances behind your mother doing this ?
