Ford KA 2006 Key
Hello!
Firstly, I'm a bit new to this so forgive me if it all goes wrong!
So i have just purchased a Ford KA Collection 2006 model. It comes equip with central locking and 2 keys but I was wondering if it is possible to get a key with the unlocking buttons on it? I don't know if the car can do that as the keys I was given don't come with buttons or anything but was wondering if anyone knows anything about that car model if it can manage that or not? Thanks!

Put your reg in here http://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do and can look up if it is fitted but if it comes with2 genuine Ford non remote keys then unlikely.
The next problem is that the car will need hooking up to the Ford computer to program the keys costing probably as much as a 2006 Ka is worth !0 -

Not necessarily. Most ford keys of this era can be programmed by the owner for both remote and transponder.
If the car will accept remote keys (which it probably will at that age) then you can program the remote yourself as long as you have a key that will turn the ignition on. Typical instructions are available here:
http://www.lifestylefordparts.co.uk/article/show/17
or your handbook should have details for specific models.
To program the transponder you need two different keys which will both start the car (not just ulck the doors). If you have two non-remote keys then it's likely that one is a clone of the other, in which case this won't work:
Insert the first working key and turn to the ON position (position II - dash light son but not started), and repeat with the second working key. This puts the PATS system into programming mode.
Insert the new key within 10 seconds and turn to the on position while watching the LED beside the clock, once the LED stays on constant the new key should be programmed.
Up to 8 keys can be programmed this way.
If you don't have 2 different keys (ie: the two you have are an original and a clone) then you can:- Pay Ford lots of money to provide and program a key for you
- Pay an independent quite a lot of money to clone one of your existing key transponders to a remote key.
- Get a remote key and swap the transponder with the one from one of your existing keys (will probably mean destroying the existing key to get the transponder out)
- Download FORSCAN (free) for your laptop and invest in a USB or bluetooth OBDII adapter. Make sure the software can talk to your car successfully.
This gives you access to fault codes including all the specific Ford ones - including body systems that aren't covered by OBD. It successfully identified an intermittent heater fault, which would occasionally blow hot air even on full aircon, as loss of connection to one of the heater flap motors on my partner's Mondeo.
Buy the upgrade to FORSCAN (currently costs nothing but is active for a limited time to enable charging in future if they decide to). This gives you access to the security / key management facilities and allows you to do exactly what a dealer would do. For free.
Being a moneysaving site, options 3 & 4 are probably the recommended ones0 - Pay Ford lots of money to provide and program a key for you

Thank you for the reply but i tried using that site and as i use a mac, i dont have java nad therefore cant0

Google for "ford remote key programming" and you'll find plenty of sites with instructions, including youtube vids, that should work fine on a Mac.
Don't worry too much if you can't find the Ka listed specifically, the instructions for a Fiesta or similar should work - any differences are generally in the number of times you have to turn the ignition on & off to get into programming mode.0 -

Why not fit a key fob kit, it would be a cheap option.
