OP, from what you've posted, it doesn't sound like you are ready financially to step into a commitment like a property purchase and there are quite a few things you need to research first.

Follow the advice given already and post your Statement of Affairs (SoA) on the Debt Free Wannabe board by using the Stoozing site here. Use the "MSE" option to format the results correctly for the forum. Other members can then provide constructive feedback on your financial circumstances.

You cannot use credit cards or loans to fund either your deposit or mortgage payments. Make that clear to your wife.

Somehow over the past 4 weeks, we (wife and I) have spent £120 on groceries for the month... That's with making dinners / lunches etc, all fresh and nothing pre-made. It's all about getting to the shops at the right time to get the yellow sticker items - Meat can go in the freezer, and veg, well, it gets used up quickly! Bulk make food and package it into meals. No alcohol (which costs a lot) and hardly any treats, but we have gotten through! £500 per month for two must mean a bottle of wine a night, caviar on the weekends, and nothing but premium brands..?!

I'm echoing the words of others here - you can't borrow to fund a deposit (unless it's a loan into the bank, and then, you will need to pay that back too and it will also affect your chances of getting mortgage approval)
