Bathing Baby

Been googling for ages ...
If I could recommend ONE book, it would be something like the Baby and Child Medical Handbook, if it's even still in print, which fairly quickly enabled me to identify and be reassured about most of what seemed to be wrong with the boys. Saves a lot of angst from googling.
Eczema is a horrible horrible condition, but unless and until he develops it, you're just worrying yourselves. DH had the most appalling eczema as a child (still does at times), but only one of ours had even a hint of dry skin.
Bath time will get easier, baby will be more alert more of the time and you'll probably find a good time of day and a routine which suits you all. BTW babies can be bathed in the morning or afternoon if bedtime doesn't work. Although as far as possible I'd recommend both of you being involved because it can be such good fun.
BTW, if you're using cotton wool balls, get yourself a big fat roll of the stuff, and pre-tear some BIG lumps for the rear end. You will save a fortune ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Step Away From The Screen and spend more time with the baby / baby's mum / the housework baby's mum isn't managing to do because she is too pooped ...
Thanks for the advice in your post.
Just quoted this to point out that while I said - "googled for ages" - ages to me means anything longer than a few minutes, since generally Its pretty easy and quick to find answers.
If you have to go past the first few pages of search results then it doesn't exist.
I did not mean that I've spent hours on it.
I found the thing about water hardness by accident when just generally checking something about bath time.
I'm sure it wasn't meant in an offensive way at all but I dislike the comment about spending more time.
I'm a very hands on father.
we both look after the baby equally. Share feeds, nappies, cuddles, soothing. I take him for long periods after work to let Mum have a rest.
I've always done the majority of the housework (cooking, washing, cleaning, maintenance) and continue to do the lions share of it now. Although she is managing to do a few things herself now that she's at home for longer.
Just because I took two minutes while baby was asleep to ask a question I was wondering about doesn't mean I'm neglecting my duties or wasting time.
I was concerned about it, because of what I'd read on babycentre. I'm now not concerned about it any more. So it was a valid use of those two minutes.
Thanks to everyone who has posted their thoughts on the matterMortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

I think it helps to find a website you feel you can trust and go to that site first with any baby questions/worries. Googling will pretty much always get you a 'yes', a 'no' and a 'maybe' to any question you choose to ask, particularly for parenting!
I always found https://www.askdrsears.com useful as it more or less matched my style (natural/attachment/gentle and evidence-based). Some of the American stuff needs a bit of 'translating' but it's a good site and is mostly written by a doctor/father so it might suit you. The bathing page mentions nothing about hard/soft water but focuses on enjoying the experience together... so I'd go for that!
On a different topic, the page about Fever on the above site is a page I revisit pretty much every time one of my kids has a raised temperature for a great no-fuss way to work out what you should be doing without going OTT.0 -

Maybe your quite rightly tired, but maybe give the post a re read and see now its been pointed out to you wether it still offends.;),Fully paid up member of the ignore button club.If it walks like a Duck, quacks like a Duck, it's a Duck.0 -
When you have a new baby and it's your first, using Google is probably the worst thing you can do. It will make you worry even more. Think about those babies born to women who live in areas without running water, wipes, formula, Google etc. Worrying about whether the water is hard or soft isn't worth it.0
