So many boilers are in kitchens, and all it does is take away valuable storage. I don't know why we don't put boilers in bathrooms. I think it's just tradition, as is so much that's wrong about house design here in general.

Mine is in the en-suite and I just don't like it. If you run a bath then hot water comes very quickly but when doing the dishes or washing your hands in the kitchen you have to waste several litres before you get any hot coming through! This is why I originally wanted to move it to the kitchen. We have a reasonable amount of storage so loosing some doesn't bother me too much.

Yes, but are they any good? The good ones are booked up for weeks ahead.

Quite a few good ones locally should I ever need them!

I opted for up in the loft. As long as you have a ladder fitted, the loft is boarded and a light is fitted, then you should be fine. My previous boiler had been in the corner of the bathroom - the pipes and cables were simply extended up in to the loft. The power switch remains in the back bedroom as one of those "what does this do" switches for anybody in the future!

Bear in mind that the longer the pipe run, then you may have to jump up a size on the gas supply as the pressure can drop over a distance (i.e. if you have 22mm now, you might need 28mm running from the meter).

One thing I learned was don't clip the pipes to the ceiling joists - the ceiling can amplify the noises from the boiler that run along the pipes - so the noise of the gas valve turning on, the noise of the boiler firing up, etc. I had to remove all the clips and instead strapped the pipes down to the joists with pipe insulation to absorb the vibrations.

The pipe run is quite long now, so it takes a while for hot water to come through - no biggie compared to the benefit it provided in freeing up space in the bathroom for a shower to be fitted.

If I decide to install a boiler that is heated with electricity from my solar panels then it makes sense to put all of this together which limits it to the loft or the cellar.

I am planning on installing underfloor heating to the ground floor, I don't know if this will have a bearing on things?

I would have thought that the water would flow better if the boiler was in the cellar rather than the attic.

Perhaps not a issue with modern boilers.

Shouldn't think the water pressure will be much different at 1m below ground level or 1m above ground level though it may make a little difference if installed in the attic.

Any others with experience of cellar or attic setups?
