Old Style Daily Sunday 30th October

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Good morning everyone :hello:
Hope you are all enjoying your extra hour in bed. My plans were scuppered in a nice way by the arrival of the grandchildren again as they wanted to sleep over. I don't mind at all especially as their mum and stepdad are full of cold and flu. Anyway, DGS 5 woke me up early so now he's enjoying his breakfast and I am having 5 mins to myself on here before everyone else appears.
I managed to get most of my Christmas shopping done yesterday online. It is a relief as I like to get everything by next month and then I can relax and enjoy the Christmas run up without the stress.
I think me and hubby are not buying for each other this year as we both have everything we need or want.
Hubby is in charge of the kitchen today and we are having roast leg of pork with all the trimmings. The grandchildren love roast dinners so I can't see them wanting to go home till the afternoon. I will be ready for my nanna nap by then for sure.
Last day of having the girls home before school starts on Monday. DD15 is very stressed by the amount of work she has to do as it's her GSCE's this school year. I expect a lot of moaning and groaning as they all catch up on homework today.
Well, I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning folks and thanks for the thread DUMPLING. I am totally confused as to actually what time I got up (other than knowing it was too early yet again!). I put the clock in the bedroom back one hour but, as it's a new clock since the last clock change, I hadn't realised it "put itself" back, so I think it ended up two hours back!
Day 1 of caravan shut down went quite well, albeit hard work, and I am as stiff as a board this morning! DD came over too before starting a late shift at work, so we made good progress. Both cars were packed with stuff to house here over winter, and the van was stuffed full of bikes, toys, garden chairs & loungers, tv's and stands, etc etc.
Today we are taking down the awning, covering the decking, covering the van and putting it to bed for the winter! DS is meeting us over there to help. (We are beyond climbing on caravan roofs these days!) I have packed us a box of sandwiches and snacks to keep us going! I love the inbetween times at our van but the opening up and closing down gets harder each year!
Have a good day and (((HUGS))) to all in need. Normal service will resume here tomorrow when we have the 3 DGDs for the day - teacher training day! They have just had a week off isn't that enough?! Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -

Master and miss tru were driving down a lane and saw what they thought was a dog lying in the road, they stopped and got out, it was a muntjac deer. It looked terrified so they hung back a bit, it managed to get up and run into the hedge on three legs, the fourth leg was just dangling. They rang the RSPCA and waited, it was dark but they kept an eye on where the deer was without getting too close (it was moving away into the field). It looked like a broken leg, RSPCA person said if it was a compound fracture they'd have to put him down but from where they were stood it didn't appear to be, so hopefully they've been able to treat him.
Scampi was not impressed with miss tru's supergirl costumeI would've thought it looked just like ordinary clothes to him, but he starting barking and running around, weaving around the legs of the coffee table til she left the room, lol.
I've just been pottering about lately, keeping things clean and tidy. I'm a bit bored, I need a project to get stuck into. My list of jobs is now quite short but I've come to a standstill for the moment – they involve things like emptying the lounge to get the walls skimmed and I don't want to do things like that til the new year.
I need to hoover and mop the floors and do an online shop, then the day is mine. I'll trawl through craft blogs and see what other people are making, I need to steal their ideas because I can't seem to come up with any of my own

Morning everyone, thanks for the thread Dumpling.
Yesterday we had DM over for the day, weather wise it didn't cheer up until late in the afternoon so sat her in the kitchen with the Xmas edition of GH whilst I made some ginger cake. Didn't have enough black treacle so substituted with golden syrup and actually preferred the slightly lighter cake. We had a little trip into the village to visit the garden centre, she picked up some nyjer seeds as loves watching the birds and wants to encourage goldfinches , I found some lovely orange tea lights to decorate the hearth for Samhain.
We had planned to phone for a Chinese on the way home from DB's but they were constantly engaged so ended up with good old fish and chips which were freshly cooked and have to say very yummy.
Just the two of us today, beef is defrosting ready for a stew and will catch up on the Archers omnibus, also need to get over to see my lovely Bill as missed yesterday and feel in need of hairy horse cuddles
Have a good day everyone xx0 -
Morning All
Like you TA, can't quite work out what the time is, I find this a long day!
Damp and grey outside so washing will go on the airer today, just folded yesterdays. DW and bins emptied.
Got lots done yesterday morning, booked car in for service, phoned for a haircut (managed to get it done yesterday too), went in and paid for the kitchen and took a picture in to the framers. Bought a beautiful picture in there too, just need to work out where to put it!
DD and BF visiting some time today, hope it's not too late as I have been invited to a friends for dinner.
Going to paint the inside of a cupboard this morning, well one shelf anyway, don't really have anywhere to store everything if I do them all at once.
Have a good Sunday, take care. XX0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread Dumpling
I had a lie in this morning because of the hour change, DGD2 was collected about 7 yesterday evening and my L&M arrived home just after 7:30 after he met up with a friend for lunch.
Today I shall try to finish the jobs I didn't get done yesterday, I washed all the throws and vacuumed through but I didn't manage to get the streamer over the floors.
Back to work for me tomorrow with all the joy that entails but I got my pinafore dress from eBay so I will go to work in a new outfit, my colleagues will be stunned, lol.
Time I got in the shower.
Have a good day everyone.

Morning everyone.
I woke in the middle of the night for the loo and then watched the time change on my tablet and then went back to sleep again. An 'extra' hour is almost always wasted, just absorbed into sleep.
Today I'm going up to Oban for the matinee showing of Dr Strange. I'm not a huge film fan but just fancied this one, hope it pans out.
The question of Christmas presents alway poses real problems for me. I don't really enjoy the whole palaver at all, stopped sending cards over 10 years ago and minimised the giving of presents. It's not about lack of money or lack of love, it's what Dumpling said, most people have whatever they want already and I object to buying token or joke presents.
Because of that I usually resort to sending beautiful bouquets to my far away friends. This year I'm going to send bare root roses for a more lasting gift. The idea came to me after I was thinking about something for my neighbours who lost two sons in the past year, a new rose was perfect for them.
Right, I had better start getting myself out of bed. I'll do a little light shopping whilst in Oban, there's a new enormous Lidl just opened up so I can imagine coming home with some German Christmas goodies! Now that's the part of Christmas I do enjoy!
Happy Sunday everyone.0 -
Morning all,
I've been up for ages, hadnt changed my watch, got up for the bathroom thenfinished my book on my kindle back in bed. When I was having a look in my 'library' for what to read next saw the correct time so changed it,read a bit more but had to get up,heard the pooch-she just thought it was getting up time.DH got up too after about half an hour so we'll take her out shortly.
Gammon joint is in the sc with some apple juice, leeks, celery and carrots. Also cooking a chicken later we got in a meal deal, and I have pumpkin soup to make after DH carved 2 pumpkins with the dgc on Friday night. They googled images and chose which design they wanted, then took them home with them later, dont think we're seeing DGD tomorrow.
I went looking at DS new house yesterday as it finally completed on Friday. There is still a skip on the drive but as its not yet full the previous lady said he could put some stuff in before it goes.It actually doesnt look as bad now its emptied. Its absolutely filthy, there is only a sink in the kitchen, and the bathroom is grotty, but with a bit of replastering here and there its only cosmetic in the bedrooms and lounge. He may pop over later and do a bit,but he'll not be moving in yet awhile.
Anyway, hope you all have a good day xx:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
Morning All
Oooh a bit grey and grim here this morning - but the birds are peep-peeping and its starting to lift a bit. Put the back yard 'garden' to bed yesterday (emptied/wrapped up wall fountain/pump, trimmed dying back lilies, swept and tidied).
Hope everyone is feeling well and warm. Sending hugs/positivity and xxxxx's to all who want them. To those in a dark place - you can do this, just keep going xx.
Special thoughts (and candles lit) for everyone who needs a bit of light (a lovely spicy blackberry one for the season).
Have a beautiful Sunday xx2022 | Back to the fold - need a Money Saving mojo reboot!

Good Morning chums weather a bit misty this morning ,but fingers crossed it will brighten up a bit.DD phoned last night to say her and her OH have gone down with a tummy bug so I don't have to rush around doing breakfast this morning for her:) Bless her, she is so rarely ill and I did feel for her Apparently they both ate some sea bass which didn't agree with them on Friday night, and they have been feeling really rough all day yesterday.
Still I have my weekly menu to sort out and veg prepping as well, and I found lots of veg in the freezer which will be turned into soup this morning for this weeks lunches. No shopping to get until Tuesday and then only a very small essential list at the moment. I have just over £13 left in October's food purse which will go into the holiday fund on Tuesday when I draw my November cash out.
I always draw hard cash out for food shopping and put it in a separate purse and work on the principle that when its gone that's it until the next month Helps you focus on what you are buying, and if its needed or just impulse buying.
As I am trying to eat down the freezer for defrosting my buying has dropped right down for the time beingand anything left in my purse goes straight into the holiday fund for next year.
Right time to get a wriggle on as I am in need of some hot coffee and perhaps some porridge for breakfast.Nice warming winter food that keeps me going until lunchtime which will be probably vegetable soup and some crackers and cheese. Dinner this evening at DDs so I may make a few mince pies to take with me as I have quite a bit of mincemeat in the cupboard in jars to use up
Have a good day everyone what ever you are doing
Cheers JackieO xx0
