Ok I checked the letters and it seems it has been added since 2014. I think the issue is that I had to appeal my PIP reassessment this spring, so they haven't added it to my new tax credits award. Now the appeal is passed, they have backpayed the bit they owed me since April. Which I suppose is actually quite organised of them.

So it doesn't seem to be a problem. Not sure about the ESA. I do get ESA (cont based). This is added to the tax credits award as income (non means tested benefit) so therefore reduces the tax credit overall amount. I don't get any extra tax credits element for that though.

In that case it sounds straightforward - did you let them know when you lost your PIP? As long as you notify them within a month of the successful appeal decision then you should get it back to when it ended.

  • It seems DWP informed them (somewhat efficiently for them) and it was backpayed to the date of the appeal. I had my MP involved who helped with PIP and maybe they are being very efficient- now.

    Sorry but I am confused.

It sounds like what has happened is that you started getting PIP and let tax credits know and they added it to your claim so you got the extra elements.

Then your PIP was stopped following reassessment - and DWP told HMRC. Your PIP was then reinstated following appeal and tax credits have added the extra elements back on and backdated.

If so, i don't understand what the issue is and why you think you have missed out on payments?

They do have a process whereby they share information but the onus is on the claimant to report changes to their circumstances legally.

  • Yes, you are right there isn't an issue. I thought there was- during an online chat with them it seemed they hadn't been paying it since 2014 but now I have checked properly it seems they have. Thought I may be due some back payment but overall it's fine, sorry for the confusion
