O/S Daily Saturday 29 October 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and myself up enjoying first peaceful cuppas of the day. We're both at work today and he's going in early to help his boss out. Both boys still in their pits.

Still dark here, but mild, yesterday developed into a nice sunny day then became cloudier in the late afternoon, but no rain. Washing didn't quite get dry on the line.

Dinner last night was duck and pancakes, bbq ribs in smokey marinade, veg rice, stir fry and extras. Tonight should be chicken korma, rice and extras, I'll see whether DH wants that or something else, I fancy it so may do him something different if he doesn't want curry.

Yesterday I was reasonably productive, although I had a bit of an incident in SM when I was doing my shopping. I'd finished shopping and was at the checkout, cashier was scanning shopping and I was packing, she put through a bottle of red wine and I picked it up, and it broke showering red wine and glass everywhere, 2 of her colleagues assisted her to get cleaned up/clear the till area up, not once did they ask if I was ok, in fact I was left feeling like it was my fault and the when I said to the cashier I didn't know why the bottle would break like that (it broke around the bottom part of the neck just where the bottle widens out), I thought maybe the glass had a weakness and it exploded, I was told by the cashier quite rudely, you can see that it didn't explode from how it's broken, it's really offended me, the customer service skills were non-existent, and to top it off, when I've got home (I didn't check my receipt in store as I just wanted to get out of there) I've been overcharged (I've been charged twice for 1 item) - so not the best of days' although I have put in a customer feedback comment on their website, not that it'll do any good - maybe that's the difference between the budget SM and the mainstream ones! Other than that I was reasonably productive yesterday - I got all the washing done, dried and put away, did the ironing, made a victoria sponge and a tray of tiffin.

This morning I have checked the bank and the missing credit is now showing on the transactions list that has now been updated - they must have had a glitch in the system yesterday - but it's all been put right now.

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC for the thread. Too dark to see what's happening outside but forecast is cloudy but dry.

Busy weekend ahead as it's almost the end of the caravan season (site closes early November to beginning of March) and we are going over this morning to make a start on shutting down. Today is earmarked for getting as much stuff from the awning either into the car to bring home or stuffing into the caravan for the winter. First job will be putting bowls of salt everywhere to attract any damp. It's amazing just how much water is in all the bowls come March!

Yesterday's knitting session went surprisingly well! The two eldest vaguely remembered from their last lesion what to do and after many dropped stitches they were off and away! The youngest was busy making "jewellery" with grandad!

Packed lunch to make now to take with us. Have a good day and (((HUGS))) to all in need. Take care all xx

All quiet here, though it won't last, I'm sure DGD will be up soon.
She needs to be home by 9am as she is going out for the day to Chessington, I'm having Suzy for the day as she is only 2 and won't enjoy it.
Winston went home yesterday, he was in the garden around 6:30 and he started to bark, then I could here him come thundering through the French doors, along the hall to the front door still barking. He had recognised his owners car and was beside himself with excitement.
Today I will wash all my throws as he has been making a nest of them and steam clean all the downstairs floors.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone.

Dark here still too though I can that there's no fog or mist.

My little trip yesterday was a little challenging as the woman bad 'lost' her keys and was locked in her house. I managed to open the key ssfe for the spare key and took her to the hospital. When we got back I found out from her neighbour's that she continually puts her keys, purse and card wallet away in safe places, then can't find them and declares them stolen. She even had a safety pin on her trousers waistband where the neighbour had put the house keys on Thursday evening, gone by Friday morning. It's so very sad.

In the evening I ventured out for the first time in ages. There was a funding raising presentation at our local museum. It was very odd but only lasted for an hour so I stuck it out.

As for today, I have no plans except to not do any shopping. Yesterday I got cheese and apples and that's it. I'm off to Obsn tomorrow for a matinee film so will pick up stuff when there.

Right, I hope everyone has a lovely Saturday.

Damp and drizzly here this morning, such a change to yesterday. Will do some washing when I've had a shower, DW will go on too.

The kitchen arrived yesterday, the delivery drivers clearly can't tell the time as I had said I wouldn't be in till 3.30. They turned up at 3pm but luckily my neighbour has a key and let them in. They were just leaving when I got home. Not sure if it is all there but will have to trust them.

Got lots of little jobs to do this morning then probably having a sewing afternoon.

Have a good weekend, take care. XX

    Good morning everyone :hello:

I nearly had a heart attack this morning as I came downstairs to feed the animals. My daughters had decorated the living room for Halloween and had hung up a zombie/ghost thing in the doorway and as it was dark I didn't see it, just felt it as I walked past, gosh did it make me jump :eek:.

Well, I'm just about recovered from having the grandchildren over the last few days, they wanted to sleep but luckily mummy said No as they are going out this morning. The girls have been really good with them and kept them entertained but now they want a couple of days to catch up with homework etc before they have to go back to school on Monday.

I'm the only one up at the moment so I am just enjoying the peace and quiet. Hubby is in charge of cooking and I have an online shop arriving between 9 and 10 as the fridge is bare. The tumble dryer is on warming up the downstairs but it is quite mild for this time of year. We have only put the heating on twice so far.

I hear movement above so I will love you and leave you. Hope you all have a great weekend, take care xx

Morning everyone, thanks for the thread nmlc, how rude of the SM staff.

Cloudy and very mild here, it was so warm yesterday didn't need a coat at all.

Off to pick up DM soon as she is spending the day at ours, if she feels up to it will pop down to the nursery in the village to pick up some winter pansies as have done nothing with my pots yet. My geraniums are still out and flowering as it's been so mild.

    That poor lady Gers :(

Better get going, have a good day everyone, take care folks x
  • Morning all, it is grey and dismal here but not cold. Germy weather!

    nmlc, how rude!

I have been up since 4 and pottering about purposeless. I do have stuff to do but no motivation, I will get some laundry sorted later. I need to tidy and clean in the kitchen too.

For now, though, I am going to have a bath while OH does the shopping.

Yesterday I went to the market for veg, quite bargainous and we are huge veg eaters, the chaps also like .huge amounts of meat, though I am not keen. THEN to Mr M for a few bits, including a bottle of beer for my casserole, OH helpfully prevented waste by slurping up what was left. Mr M also gave me vouchers for extra points up to Christmas. Nothing of interest in the YS section (O.H calls it the casino bit) only some very strange leftover things that we don't eat.

See you later and hope that everyone has the best day they can.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

The chaps putting the gas in were here just after 8 am. I have only just made it out of bed. Was reading a book OH gave me, utter rubbish, no real theme and no continuity. I hate books like that, so gave up reading it.

No plans for today or tomorrow, I am very tired again, think it might have something to do with steaming the carpet and kitchen floor yesterday. I grieves me to say so but I feel I am not coping with the cleaning. I am not really sure how I would feel for someone to come in and clean...........standards etc...... I need to have a word with my neighbour about the firm she uses. I also feel I might have to resort to a gardener too, which will really upset me. I see the cardiologist on 10th November, I will see what he has to say.

Bacon eggs and tomato, will do OH a slice of fried bread with his. No idea about dessert.
