Hi all my son purchased a car part, a can sensor for a 51 Astra, He fitted it and the car wont start, he put the old one back in and the car starts, to me the sensor is faulty, son goes back to supplier who say item fully tested prior to sale and they don't refund items that have been used, though how you are supposed to know it's faulty before you use it i don't know. Son can away quite angry, he eventually went back again and after a while they said they would send it away for testing ( the item cost £34) but it would take 10 days even though they earlier demanded all items are fully tested prior to sale, now i'm not to sure where we stand here as my son didn't want it sending away for 10 days he wanted his money back or a replacement, now, to fit. So he came away with the item, where do we stand by not agreeing for it to be sent away and demanding a replacement and them still refusing

Within the first 6 months the retailer needs to prove the issue arose from something other than a manufacturing defect - in order to do this they would need to get a independent report to verify its not a inherent manufacturing defect. In order to do this they would need to send it away.0

Of course the seller is allowed the opportunity to inspect the thing to determine whether or not the fault is inherent, and if he doesn't have the skills to do that he can ask someone else to do the checking on his behalf.0
