Changing from PAYG to meter
Options
Hi,
I bought a flat and the old owner was on a pay as you go system, i'd like to change to a normal meter.
What is the best way to go about it and can i get the best deals straight off of the bat, or do i have to swap first then start haggling for deals as per the info on the home page?
Thanks
Rik

Since last April suppliers can not charge you to switch the meters but there will be conditions such as account holder only, landlords permission probably and a credit history check. 5 of the big 6 will credit check, EDF I am told, do not , so if you have a problem switch to EDF and give them a go.
Good idea to move from prepayment meters, not only inconvenient but expensive.Try the existing supplier first. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

When we moved into this property we were miffed to find out it had a prepayment meter which we weren't used to. It was absolutely gobbling money. I then realised that I was still in a fixed rate tariff contact with my previous supplier so I rung them & explained that if I switch to them via the prepayment meter, they weren't able to provide my gas/electric at on the tariff that0

Sorry - pressed wrong button! . Basically they weren't fulfilling their side of the deal. Reluctantly they agreed to remove and swap the meters and its much better. The engineer who did it says its more or less unheard of so I was very fortunate to have them in that position!0
