I had a Vaillant ecoTec Plus combi boiler installed three months ago. It cost approx £1,200 and has a warranty of 7 years (provided I have it serviced annually by the Vaillant heating engineer who installed it). My house is a medium-sized 4 bedroom detached and I am satisfied with the boiler performance to date.
All those quotes you have been given seem excessive to me. I hope this is helpful.0 -
The only one I would fit out of that lot would be the BaxiI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -

Not correct you only had to get in installed by your advanced installer, yes you do need an annual service but ANY Gas safe registered installer can service itI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

hi james.
Why is your existing boiler condemned!, its probably because B G want to sell you a new one & rip you off.
I am haveing trouble with my worcester 28i cdi rsf, its at least 18 years old or more. Im still getting enough hot water from it for me to try a fault find the problem , ive had my mate in who spent quite a lot of time trying to find the fault.
after all the checks we thought that it was the p c b , so i sourced a exchange one off fleabay, but the problem still existed.
The fan was replaced the last time i had a fault with it some 5 years ago , so i kept saying it wont be the fan to my engineering mate.
The gas valve was checked , solenoids & everything else that lives in that box, we were getting nowhere fast.
We couldnt seem to run the boiler with the front cover removed so that we could check & test the fan running ,that still looked &sounded pretty new still, so he thought the last thing we can do or must do is remove the fan & check it on the bench, & to my surprise the fan when testing was only running at 10 millibars & should be 20, so i have sourced a new fan on flea bay at half price & also i came across a new pcb for £40, which retail at £250.
The condition of the firebox and the inside burner etc were in excellent condition for a boiler of that age, ok the proof of the pudding will be when i fit the new fan on arrival.
So ok ive spent a few quid so far , approx £170 , but now i have the neccesary spares for the next unplanned breakdown in the future including a brand new P C B that im pleased about, for all the doubters my mate is gas safe .
So maybe you can get someone in who is independant & save your boiler from extinction.
I dont want a condensate boiler fitted in my house untill i have no say in the matter.
The prices you have been quoted seem very steep to me, why dont you select the boiler & buy it yourself at a discount (maybe) & get a gas safe plumber to install it for you & save £1000 of the prices quoted.:)0 -
Your "mate" might be gas safe reg but it doesn't sound like he's got a clue when it comes to fault finding, just think how much you would have spent on him throwing parts at it in the hope one was going to work,
"when I fit the fan on arrival" ummmm maybe your mate doesn't exist in the first placeI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

Why has your boiler been condemned?Je suis sabot...0

Hi all
It was condemned because there is a hole in the flute
So they said it had corroded even thou in February 2016 , i have heating care with BGAS and 3 engineers came out because we smelled a funny gas . They all never once told us that the problem was there and pointed out shortly it will develop a hole and get condemned0 -
thank for the message the only thing i would say to that we have been told with a warranty the first thing they do is see if it has been correctly fitted properly if it hasn't they will not fix the boiler because of this , so i am worried if i buy the parts and boiler myself , and get someone from the yellow pages or check trade etc . Some time down the road if we do have a problem than we will end up not getting help ..... Hence the reason i am wondering about going with a company so for any come backs i can go to them and the companies i have been talking to have year and years behind them again if i get Tom & Jerry company they might go pop in a years time and i cant find them to get them to do the job again or too do it properly so my warranty is fine ??
Just a thought but i cant risk to be out of pocket even more on this0 -
Why do people trust BG engineers they are on a bonus to condemn boilers and sell you a new one, bunch of cowboys IMHO.
Get a second opinion from a Gas safe engineer and if you can replace the flute or maybe the flue maybe better.
And cancel your BG plan.0
