Landlord Rating Websites

Hi All,

I'm being evicted due to petty revenge due to getting the council involved in a flat I'm renting (the council categorised the situation as a Grade A hazard and made the LL fix it).

Unfortunately the new revenge eviction laws don't cover me etc so there's little I can do, other than hold out for a few months (which I intend to do).

However, I want to stop other tenants being attracted by this Landlord. My neighbour, also a tenant of his, moved out months ago fed up of his crap, so it's not just me that's been burned by him.

Are there any Landlord review websites that I can post to, so I can at least try and stop someone else going through what I've been through?

Thanks
Despite my name, I'm not a student any more

I suppose that, since you don't know of any, and are obviously a prospective tenant, there's not much point bothering with a bad review, as chances are nobody relevant will see it.

Frankly, I'd save energy and move on.

just curious - given your name, why you aren't covered by the protection?
  • Doesn't matter, it'll get indexed by Google and will come up if someone does a search on the property or landlord name.

No, I'm not saving energy and moving on, he's evicting me out of my home for no other reason than revenge, so it's hardly going out of my way to leave a review for him. I leave reviews for products I buy, and places I visit which are much less important to me than this.

I'm not a student anymore, I created this account years ago when I was.

Apologies yes I see the date

As long as you're sure you aren't protected

The difficulty with sites such as you propose (not that I know of any) is the risk of libel.

    And the fact that:
    1. A review with an unnamed reviewer will hold little weight as it could be a 'revenge' review from a tenant in the same way as you class this as a 'revenge' eviction
    2. A negative review that reveals the identity of the reviewer would, potentially, deter future landlords from offering them the accomodation
    3. The majority of tenants begrudge the fact that they have to part with so much money for their rent. As such, landlords in general aren't held in the highest regard. If I were a landlord in any town, I'd expect random negative reviews from the 'landlord-haters' - some from ex-tenants and some from people in the town that are jealous of the relative success of me, as a landlord

In short, if looking for accomodation as a tenant, I'd take any review on an online website with a pinch of salt
  • Personally I would be worried that a future prospective LL or even employer found that you made a big fuss out of this instead of dropping it and perhaps thought twice about renting you a property or giving you employment in the future.

To be fair that's no different to tripadvisor or any other review site

If I said that a hotel I stayed at was rubbish and gave them a crap TripAdvisor review then in future I would probably stay somewhere else.

If I slated my LL on a review site and at some point in the future I was trying to get another tenancy and the review came up, I think that the new LL would be much less likely to want me as a tenant and the way things are now it is getting harder and harder to find rental properties.

I just don't see the benefit for the OP of making a big deal over what his LL has done to him.
