Gloss on carpet

My mum tripped over an open tin of gloss and got it all over her carpet. She cleared it up the best she could and scrubbed with some white spirit but its still there. Does anyone have any experience of improving this accident. She is very house proud but doesn't have a lot of money to replace her carpet!
I've contacted some carpet cleaning companies and they don't like our chances!

You could contact the manufacturer, who will have advice on their specific range, colour, type.0

Buy a rug / floor lamp / vase to cover it.0

Depends what the carpet is made of- wool or synthetic. Acetone will probably get it out but you need to test it will not melt it.0

Claim on the household insurance?0

I agree with FW above -house insurance if it's more than the excess.
I can't help with gloss as that is usually 'game over' I'm afraid.
I dropped a full 5ltrs of emulsion onto my new carpet from the loft as I was getting ready to move -horrendous! It went everywhere up the walls down the stairs the lot.
I got it out with newspaper, lots & lots of J cloths and hiring a carpet cleaner and going over it no less than 6 times.
I was very impressed with the rug doctor as I don't think it would have recovered otherwise.0 -
Gloss on carpets will write the carpet off. If you have accidental damage on your contents cover, claim off of that.
You wont get it clean!Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0
