It sounds as if you’ve had a productive weekend.
I’m with your logic re the Premium Bonds. My mil estate had a very near miss re a scammer and she been with the same financial advisor for years and years. I just don’t trust a lot of the financial advice. There’s little interest anywhere atm and there’s a chance of a win with the PB but most of all It’s SAFE…..we’ll as safe as anything can be…..and should we need the cash it’s accessible…..so it’s a combo of PBS and ISAs for me.

I would have suggested getting the tram* into town when you're in the big city but, of course, it's not ready yet.

Haha GAP - VERY controversial! It still feels odd to see them running up and down Princes Street after all the hoo-ha when they were being planned and built!

Milann I remember reading about that in your diary - and yes, there is definitely an element of safety in it. I also like the possibility of maybe getting a win too - it’s good to have something like that as a “could happen” I think! If interest rates increase to a level where savings accounts become decent earners again then we may rethink.

Have to admit I'm an anti-tram-er.  I won't start.  Hope you have a great time though and I'm sure you will as it's a fun city.  I know you've been before (think I read that previously) so I'm sure you know that already.

Edit: misread your last post. Of course you have been before!

  • @EssexHebridean The dog and I stayed at the Leith Holiday Inn Express a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Really well  situated, good breakfasts and handy for lots of great pubs and restaurants. If you have a spare hour or two, a tour of the Royal Yacht is an eye-opener.

    Yay for the switch incentive!

Interesting about the dehumidifier. Mr Cheery often had one on before I met him in our old house loving room, but once I got into the habit of opening the curtains every day we didn't need it 🙄 The current house those has a few rooms which always feel damp- my study being one of them - piles of paper always feel a bit floppy in there 🙄 We've been using the new dehumidifier in the kitchen to dry the plaster, and in the bedroom for a few hours before bed, which has made it feel more pleasant in there, but I think once we've moved into the new bedroom (which is bigger and also will have less stuff in) I'll get it settled up in the study regularly. Never really occurred to me to use them regularly before.
  • We find that during the summer we almost don't need it at all, but once we're into Autumn and winter it really does need to be on fairly regularly - it's the same every year at this stage. We'll run it almost daily for a few weeks, then it will step down to a few times a week trying to make sure it goes in every room in turn. I can't have it on anywhere near the bedroom to close to going to sleep though as it's so effective it leaves me feeling very dry in the mouth overnight. It got itself to pretty much half full yesterday so clearly was finding plenty to do!

I can't imagine having to use a humidifier every day. Presumably you live in a beautiful old house to compensate?
