Swapping wheels without a spare?
I was planning on swapping wheels front/back to level the wear, but the current car only has an inflation kit.
Normally I'd do it using the spare in 3 steps (spare->front, front->rear, rear->front) as I was under the impression it was a hugely bad idea to lift both at once with a pair of jacks. However, now I don't see any other option.
What do you recommend?

It's not a "hugely bad idea" - but if you just use the standard wheel-changing jack, it's not going to be very stable.
Trolley jack and an axle stand, job jobbed.0 -
As above, get a decent jack and at least 1 axle stand.
Slacken all the wheel nuts/bolts half a turn before you jack anything up.
jack up the rear wheel, and put the axle stand securely so the car isn't going to roll off when you jack up the other end. (Stick it in 1st gear, or P and put wheel chocks all round the front wheel you are not taking off yea)
Remove jack and jack up the front. Take the back wheel off , and roll it to the front of the car, take the front wheel off and put the back one on the front, and nip the nuts up. (Move the chocks to this wheel, or put some more round it)
Let the jack down, jack up the other back wheel, remove it and put the front wheel you just took off on the back.
Let the jack down, and now jack up the remaining front, put on the rear wheel you have left, and put the front you have just removed on the rear with the axle stand, jack up the rear and take the stand out.
Torque up the wheelnuts/bolts and you are done.
(The wheels will have swapped sides. Unless the tread is directional (has a FORWARDS arrow on the sidewall, rather than nothing or OUTSIDE) this may or may not be a good thing, depends on who you talk to.
Or just take it to a tyre centre for them to swap the wheels front to back for a nominal fee.
DON'T FORGET TO ADJUST THE TYRE PRESSURES afterwards, as fronts and rears are usually different.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
