Post collection by family member

I am currently abroad and URGENTLY need a family member to collect an important letter which my bank will duly send after I have arranged it. (I WILL arrange the delivery OVER THE PHONE ).

The flat I was living in, is inside an apartment complex, which has security at the front desk upon entering.

My question is this.

What would my sister legally need, in order to collect my post?
My drivers license. An handwritten note signed by myself

Any advice will be very much appreciated.Thank you

*Just to emphasis this is collect from a home address. My bank cannot send it post office.

I would have thought it would be easier to arrange with the bank for your sister to collect the letter from one of their branches, and they will advise of the ID required.

As you use the words "was living in" I will assume that you no longer live at the flat, and that you need to avoid the bank knowing this in order to receive the letter.

I think the simplest solution will depend on the attitude of the front desk security, how well they know and remember you, and if you are able to contact them personally. Presumably they have access to tenants' mail and its disposal.

If they are agreeable to handing your mail to your sister upon her presentation of a signed letter from you to authorise her, she would then need to show her own photo ID, not your driver's license. You could include a signed photocopy of your passport with the authorisation letter. But there is no legal obligation for them to do this for you, without a much more formal procedure involving a solicitor etc.

Alternatively, could you not simply ask the front desk if they will forward your mail to your sister's address, with a written and signed request from you for them to do so? From my experience they would just need to cross out your address, write "Pls forward to... etc" and mail it, without the need for a postage stamp.

Surely the best way to resolve this would be to ask them? They are the only ones able to answer correctly
