Don't have kids and just moved to a more kiddy area ... Just wondering what day the kids are likely to be Trick or Treating this year?
Do kids generally do it on Halloween (ie, Monday this year), or do they do it at the weekend?
Sorry if that's a stupid question but I literally don't have a clue and was gonna put candles out and stuff on the actual night that the kids are likely to appear.

I think the little ones who make an effort to dress up and are accompanied by their mams/dads will turn up on the Monday. It's usually the older idiots who just stick a coat over their heads and grunt who will try and chance it over the weekend.
I, for one, (depending on the weather) will be doing the yearly digging out of the alligator infested pit, & laying out the man traps. But if it rains, I'll just be tying the gate up. I don't have kids, so I really can't be doing with this 'American' trick or treat nonsense. Although DH suggested that I spend a few quid buying some sweeties and lollies - I spend that money on a treat for the dog. I ain't feeding the brats round here, they show their appreciation by chucking eggs at your windows.:mad:

I was going to take my kids out on Saturday. But maybe I'll wait until Monday if that's what everyone is doing.
Don't really like doing it on a school night though.0 -
i'll be taking my 4 kids on the monday... we only ever knock on doors if they have a pumpkin/halloween decs up.. i think most people do this although i'm not sure?!? i hate the whole trick or treating thing personally, but all my kids friends do it and mine felt left out so have let them go last couple of years lol0

I don't really like taking them on school night either but then i do get annoyed when others trick or treat on a night that isn't actually halloween.. lol
i'll be doing my 4 an early ish dinner then take them out for half hour or so and get them back home for a reasonable bedtime.. but then i won't have to deal with them if they are tired and grumpy the next day - school will :rotfl:0 -
I can't imagine anyone opening their door to kids on any day other than halloween. Whats the point of doing it at the weekend? Its not Halloween. Just as annoying i'd imagine as when people set fireworks off at the weekend instead of bonfire night. I don't open the door anyway cos i'm a miserable biddy. Its like saying all year round 'don't take sweets or anything from strangers' but on this night you can knock on anyones door and ask them for sweets. Gotta be pretty intimidating for elderly people.August-September 2017: Lots of stuff

That's what I figured, a lot of people might not take their kids out / allow their kids out on a school night, hence I wasn't sure if it would be Saturday.
As far as Trick or Treating in the run up to Halloween, I remember when I was a kid we used to do the "Penny for a guy" thing before bonfire night, can't remember what we did for Halloween though.0 -

A few kids did Penny for the Guy, but for Halloween, there was none of this Trick Or treat nonsense. We had a school disco instead. One of our teachers had all the DJ gear, and for 10p, we could go and have a dance wearing our daft cardboard witches hats, and all the mams used to go into the school canteen bit and have a few hours gossip.
All the kids in the area used to go, it was a good idea, kept them off the street.BEST EVER WINS WON IN ORDER (so far) = Sony Camcorder, 32" lcd telly, micro ipod hifi, Ipod Nano, Playstation 3, Andrex Jackpup, Holiday to USA, nintendo wii, Liverpool vs Everton tickets, £250 Reward Your thirst, £500 Pepsi, p&o rotterdam trip, perfume hamper, Dr Who stamp set, steam cleaner.

I find Halloween less annoying than penny for the guy or Christmas carols to be honest. At least it's confined to one or two nights, and round us, everyone is pretty well behaved.
If houses are decorated, then you can knock on. If there are no Halloween decorations, you leave them alone. So most houses with children have decorations and sweets, and most others don't. Seems to work quite well.0
