Paying in Euros

We have booked a holiday in Italy over the internet, with a German company. We have to pay for it in Euros. To send a Euro-cheque from our bank costs about £20. Another way is mailing Euros by a secure means, such as Royal Mails' International Signed For. Does anyone have any suggestions for the cheapest safe means of paying?

If they won't accept a credit or debit card, the best option is probably going to be to get the cheque rather than sending cash. Sending the money by insured courier is likely to cost you over £20 anyway, and you'll get a better exchange rate if you get the exchange done by your bank's Global department rather than a high street exchange bureau. However shop around and find a bank that charges less - Abbey only want £10 for a cheque in Euros and I'm pretty sure some other banks charge less than that.

What about a bank to bank money transfer, nothing to send and is normal done in a day or two.
