Hi All,
I hope you can be as helpful as usual! It is a quick question really: I am hiring a 5 a side pitch with block bookings. One out of four floodlights is broken and has been broken for the past two months  , we play at 8pm so it is pitch dark. The site manager (company is EveryoneActive) keeps telling me they are waiting for the bulb to arrive and refused to give us a discount on the rate for the time being.
Am I protected by the Consumer Rights Act? :A

They don't have to give you a discount. You either keep playing and get on with it or stop playing holding them in breach of contract and sue for your money back.
Whether there is a breach or you can still play with 3 working floodlights would be for the courts to decide. As you are still playing then maybe it's not as bad as you are making out and not bad enough to be considered a breach.0 -
Is too dark to play?
If yes, then they should provide a full refund.
If no, then what's the problem?0 -
Could you suggest they hire a floodlight in the interim?0

Did the contract specify working floodlights? If yes then you're eligible to rescind the contract without penalty; if no then you have no real complaint.
It's often that I disagree with bris, but in this case he's spot on.0 -
Two further considerations:
1. Did you have knowledge of the problem prior to booking the pitch??
2. the center presumably has more than one pitch... Is it not possible to move pitch and/or the day or time you play?
I play football every week and they once turned ALL of the floodlights off for the last 20 minutes when it was pitch black (only a few weeks ago). It was perfectly possible to play football in those conditions! One of the people ran in to get them back on, whilst the rest of us continued to play as normal.0
