Hello all
I would like to create my first website and I'm looking to use WordPress. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good website where I can purchase my domain name and website hosting? I am in Scotland and will be hoping to target specific ip addresses using Wordads (I think!). Any help much appreciated.

There are no end of places you can get domain names/hosting packages - the likes of GoDaddy.com, 1and1, 123-reg, to name but three.
Wordpress is what's called a content management system which runs on a series of templates. It's primarily used for online blogging (online diary if you like) but a bit of creativity means you can use it for whatever you ilke.
what do you want to do with the website? What is its purpose, why are you setting it up? The answer to these questions can determine where you need to go next in getting it going.0 -
Thank you - It's been a bit of a learning curve today, but thankfully, everything appears relatively intuitive! Basically, I want to attract individuals (business based) to my site, then have them fill in their email address/contact details if they are interested in a potential service I'm offering. I don't like to cold call, so I'm thinking this could be the best way forward.
The good news is the hosting part seems very inexpensive!0 -
Second what Neil has said above. There are lots of websites out there to choose from.
I recently was in a similar situation and I asked a guy I personally know to help out, he's at boltonwebteam - you can google them.
The company provides the option to purchase domain and hosting and they're well priced also.
Would be worth checking them out.0 -
Hosting and domain names are dirt cheap (if you get the right package) and compared to a lot of things in this world are very good value. Two years of a .co.uk domain you can get for c. £15 for two years.
The hosting (where all the files live) will cost more but it does the bulk of the work. All the domain does is tell the computer "this is where all the files for my website are if you type myshinynewwebsite.co.uk into the address bar". Hosting you can probably find for less than £40 a year and generally once its up and running you can usually forget about it until it comes time to update.
So typically costing £60 a year in year one (domain and hosting), £40 in year two (hosting), £60 a year in year three (domain and hosting, remember .co.uk addresses by default run for two years), and so on.0 -
Avoid GoDaddy, they have loads of hidden charges. Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !0

Id opt for 1&1 basic package, and as im guessing you have no coding experience just use their website builder to create the simple web form you require.
It is very easy, just drag and drop. You can be up and running in 5 minutes0 -
I've been using Vidahost for some time now and I've been really happy with their cloud hosting and their customer services, and definitely their pricing.
They have a site builder service at https://www.vidahost.com/build-a-website for non-coders which should be worth a look. £4 a month for the basic package is pretty reasonable, as as I say, their customer service has been on the ball in my experience.0 -
You would be better off doing everything with Godaddy, as they have a very simple and easy to follow user interface and wordpress comes free with hosting and is very easy to set up, there customer service and help team are very good too.
Ignore what DavidP24 says, there are no hidden charges.0 -
GoDaddy was my go-to hosting since they offered a small free hosting option.
But since they have stopped that, I've began drifting my domains away from them to my own "cloud server" (it costs me $6 a month for the server and I can do what I like with it...).Laters

+ 1 for Vidahost, can't fault customer service although I use the "old fashioned" host package & not cloudEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0
