If you have AMD, then I suspect that the visual results with a multifocal implant would be disappointing. The best thing to do is to ask the surgeon.

I would absolutely love to be glasses free for the first time in 65 years, however i guess reading glasses only will be better than wearing them all the time and a considerable amount cheaper....paying about £400 a year for glasses at the moment.

It must be wonderful to be able to see when you wake in the morning before putting glasses on.

when i had the first cataract removed, they told me to leave the patch on overnight.

in the morning i made a cuppa and sat down in front of the television ( GMTV was on ;) ) and began to remove the patch.

the colours of the on screen clock almost blinded me ;)
i couldn't believe how bright they were.
it was only then that i truly appreciated how badly the cataracts where affecting my remaining sight.

the second one made almost no difference because i was already used to improved sight.

having them removed was the best thing i have ever done :)

This is basically what the Consultant said. He said my actual vision, which is below the legal driving limit, will probably not improve but that the brightness will.
My other eye is 4/60 best corrected but I am not sure if it could be better. The vision in that one is never tested when I go for eye tests so I have no idea how it is decided what lens I require.

    i hadn't thought about that.
but to be honest, i don't think the implant lens is as individuals as one they would put in reading glasses, for instance.

when i had my pre op, they didn't do an eye test, just took measurements to check the size of implant they would need to use.

i don't have eye tests anymore, i finger count. and can only do that if there is a high contrast background.

the biggest issue with me is colour blindness.
it was all quite amusing when we were tested at school ( i wasn't colour blind then, but a couple of the boys in my class were).
now i see bright colours ( red blue, green and yellow) the rest are 'dark' or 'light'
so i don't see any difference between most colours which makes it impossible to find kerbs and steps.
i see a lot of things vaguely ... but nothing in any detail.
i dont recognise faces anymore, and if someone sits still and doesn't speak, i don't even notice them at all ;)

The measurements the hospital take are used to calculated the strength of the implant lens rather than a recent eye exam.
