Change car on insurance policy

Hi, after a bit of advice before going to war.
I have been with an insurance provider for 2 years now and have just changed to my 3rd car.
On changing the vehicle the first time the premiums went up from £80 to £140 due to the nature of the car, which can be expected. However, when changing the car from a high performance bmw to a ford focus they want to keep the premiums the same for the last 2 months of the policy. Am i missing a something here?
I was told on the phone that all i would have to pay was £28 to complete the policy, now 2 weeks later i am sent a letter demanding £170 for the premiuim and £25 late fee.
For my current policy i have paid £1350 (for the BMW) and £28 to transfer over to the focus.
Does this £1350 not count towards paying for the whole year of the policy? as the focus for the whole year is around £750, and there is only 2 months left of the policy?
Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks,
Andy

Is the "focus for the whole year is around £750" your renewal, or just the cheapest you can get it for with another insurer?0
-
That was a fresh quote from the same insurer, there was no mention of any new premiums as the the £28 was to complete the policy before renewal in january0
-
Who are you insured with? And is it via a Broker?
The £28 may be an admin fee?0 -
I'm not going to say the insurer just yet, want to get all my facts straight first, but its not through a broker, it is direct with the company.
I'm pretty sure the £28 is an admin fee for changing the car on the policy, which is a fee that i was expecting, but paying BMW priced insurance on a 2003 ford focus doesn't seem right0 -
The reason people ask who the insurer is, is so that they can try and help you by looking into the fees/charges that they declare... Some insurers also have people who monitor social media and a rep may jump in to help, some posters may even work for that insurer and so have inside knowledge. Every insurer operates differently so without knowing who the insurer is there is no chance at all of you getting a definitive answer....All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0

Another thing to factor into the cost is the length of ownership.
Some insurers (I know the one I work for does this) will discount the price where you've owned the car for years.
Therefore when changing car you may be losing this discount.0 -
Company is Debenhams Insurance and both the BMW and Ford were bought on the day i insured them0

"The return premium for your recent amendment was £21.90. As per our Terms of Business we apply a £50.00 administration fee for any amendments made. Your total additional premium following this change is £28.10 which has been paid in full today."
Just found this in an email0 -
Right so Debenhams are a Broker, it's the same Broker that runs the "Go Skippy" brand.
I suspect the £750 was with a different insurer on their panel, so not a comparative quote compared to this years price.0 -
Went with Debenhams to stay away from GoSkippy, great.
The £750 was done earlier today on the debenhams website, it was around £900 with the deposit.
The quote from today was with Southern Rock when i look at the details and the policy i have on my car is with southern rock aswell, if that helps0
