Energy Efficiency / ignorant questions

I got a new lamp last night and its energy efficency is A+, the bulb it comes with is also A+.

What exactly does this mean? The bulb is LED, I am aware that they use less energy than the old type bulbs, but is the lamp only energy efficient because of the screw in bulbs it can take?

Or, does it also mean when it is plugged in but not in use that it uses very little energy? Would switching it off at the wall after use be pointless?

I imagine the lamp is rated A+, because the bulb that accompanies it is A+.

The lamp itself should use no power, unless it's got features other than holding a bulb and shade.

I have an E rated lamp. It has an internal resistive load that serves no purpose other than to make sure there is a permanent draw on the mains. As a byproduct is gives off a little heat.

It's terribly wasteful so I have decided to purchase an A+ lamp as soon as possible.
