For Russian, yes speakers are more than worth it! Beautiful language to listen to & you don't need speakers to try it with headphones at a library? (Very MS - try, & if you like it, go in for it it more deeply!)

I listen to it every day :). I think :rotfl:I find it hard to tell what language people are speaking, most that speak Russian also speak a Eastern European language (as well as English of course) however they all tell me that they choose to communicate in Russian rather than their 'home' language.

Headphones I didn't think of that (silly me) mainly as I wanted both myself and son to learn together but I will try with headphones first to test what the site is like

I've now had a chance to try it out on French, a language I am reasonably proficient at. I like the placement test, but I think its better for brushing up on skills if you have already learned the language grammatically in the dim and distant past. I probably wouldn't want to use it from scratch.

ETA: Having now tried this for Spanish (no prior experience of), I stand by what I say. Theoretical verb conjugation must come first

  • I've been learning German, and brushing up my Turkish, for a few months now. Their approach is to listen & learn, rather than goin through lots of grammar (though there is info on this and also links to other websites). It is good for conversational levels, but you won't be writing a novel in French any time soon I don't think. That said, I find it very addictive and fun, and I have learned a lot. I spend about 45 minutes a day on it. It helps if you are fast typist as you have to type what you hear & also translate. Keeps the old brain working, anyway. bonne chance, gute gluck, iyi sanslar!
