Questions about Noddle.

Hi Guys,

Following on from my first post on the forums here, where I needed information about damage I'd done to my credit file, I've now got a question about Noddle.
A very helpful user previously suggested I could use this site to check my credit file and ensure everything was in order, and to help gain a better understanding.

On the site, there is a section called 'Search History' which splits into 'Others' Searches' and 'Your Searches'.
There seems to be an awful lot of things under Others' Searches, but all under different narratives.

Most of these are 'Identification Check' 'Quotation Search' and 'General Insurance' which I believe will have come from me doing a lot of car insurance comparisons in the last few months! Question is, do these affect anything now they are appearing on my credit file? I understand that the 'Checking Credit Applications' do, but do the other searches?

Thanks guys!

  • identication check can be where as an example you ring you bank and say they ask you extra security too update an address or do a high value money transfer.

Insurance searches should not affect your credit file as there soft searches

    Hi,
    Thanks for your response.
The only thing I can thing this as being is relating to the car insurance quotes, because I obviously have to enter Name/Address/DOB so do they check to make sure all that matches? To pay the car insurance monthly, I would surely have to be accepted for credit?
I haven't made any high value transactions or changed my address.
  • you didnt with noodle do any product eligibility searches ie whats the likelyhood of getting this credit card etc etc

I would avoid noodle like the plague personally i think they are not accurate.

I've done a few of those, not just on Noddle, but in the past on other sites too (MSE being one of them)
I know soft searches don't affect too much so I'm not concerned about that, it was the other items appearing that I didn't recognise.
  • Well i packed in noddle as i signed up too there free service about 5-6 months ago, everything was going steady my credit score went from around 390 too 515 in that time. Scores are meaningless, nobody but you (and them) see them, no lender will ever see your "score", just your credit record

They are a business with a model of making money by selling "improvement" services that improve the score they themselves give you - if you score drops, you pay them money and it goes up - win for them, seems to be a win for you until you realise the pointless nature of the score.

Do note though even if you dump your account, some lenders do still report to Call Credit (noddle back end) so you should check it before applying for major credit

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
