  • Tiresome.

    Another Thursday, another new postie for our area. Which means only one thing. Ignorance of our having signed up to the RM 'opt-out' of receiving marketing junk material.....

    He didn't seem to appreciate me giving it back to him.

    They never do.

    But the first (or is it second?) principle of waste reduction is 'refuse' isn't it?

    It was all for pizza and sandwich companies. Lots of vouchers. How does that count towards your 10 a day then? Some people in our area must live on the stuff, as flyers come through every week in one form or another (in the post or freebie papers, which we also decline). Surely if there were no takers, there would be no flyers? It must cost something to print and have flyers delivered.

    There are times when living half way up a mountain, with no near neighbours, and no civilization for 25 miles is rather appealing.......

    On the plus side, I have spent no money this morning :j:rotfl:

    I've just been selected for a survey project to forward junk emails. I receive many horrible ones every day with a purported address of noreply @aldi. co.uk .
    I can't imagine Aldi being amused at this misuse of their name, but can't find a way of reporting it to them.

    Lashing down with rain here, Glad I don't have to go out and that I work from home.

  • Good Evening :hello:

    Go on, say it, 'Greying you are a pillock'.

    I am a pillock.

    I did h3ron foods a great disservice this morning, saying that I got 'feta-style' cheese from there, for 69p.

    I did not.

    I got Feta cheese from there for 69p and boy, can you tell the difference to the 'greek style' salad cheeses of elsewhere. Wow. It was certainly saltier that the 'style' cheese and had the unmistakeable tang of goat's milk, so it wouldn't be to everyone's taste, but we liked it. And it inadvertently complemented the vinagrette, which was sweet because of the dates

    Tea was no 'looker' of a plate, but gosh, it delivered on taste, and gave me about 93 of my 10 a day I think........ ;)

    I boiled up some rice and some beluga lentils. I steamed some brocolli and cauliflower and diced the cauli up small, and diced up some beetroot - coated it with oil and balsamic, added salt, pepper and a little mint. I crumbled some feta up and put it all together in a bowl, and drizzled over some date vinagrette and strew some chopped sunflower and pumpkin seeds over. Picture here;

    Today I am grateful for these 3 things;

    that me and my family weathered the storm - others were not so lucky

    that Baby Greying took a snooze and I had time to complete more paperwork

    that we managed a quick walk (to the post box) without getting blown off our feet or soaked by a deluge of rain

    Thanks for popping in, reading and starting conversations. Appreciated.

    Thanks Greying!
    I love praise for Her0n. Some of the specialist cheese from there has been such a treat. Some lovely surprises from time to time. Often smoked, which I love.

    I didn't make to Her0n this week - weather and time - so have probably missed the real feta, but one never knows with them. That's part of the fun in that store.

    We had Her0n's XSell salmon and prawn fishcakes for a very quick tea as DS dropped in with an hour's notice and I was in the throes of doing other things.
    I could have made a version easily, but probably wouldn't have, they were very different, a cross between a vegetable burger - green beans and red peppers - and a fishcake. I was very excited as I detected a scrap of smoked salmon in one of mine... cough.

    DS toddled off home with a manual coffee grinder, three 100g bags of beans and a coffee dripper with filter papers. I am pleased as he loves this sort of novelty - all surplus to my requirements. I have an electric grinder plus a cafetiere but some mornings grinding the beans is a step too far, so out comes A!di's finest Colombian ready ground.

  • Good Morning :hello:

    I don't know, mcculloch, you may not miss the feta, I've seen it - in the normal cheese section - in two different h3rons, and our branch has definitely re-stocked once, so it may be around for a little while. I didn't see it in the 'offers of the week' section at all, it went straight into the cheese section. I did laugh at your discovery of salmon in your fish cakes :rotfl: At least the xsell prices are right to be salmon 'light' -it'd be really annoying to have bought a branded product, in a supermercado and at a higher price, to find the same 'lightness of touch' with ingredient distribution :D

    Back to normal, and I'm hopeful of HM pizza and wedges for us tea, if all goes to plan. It will probably be 3 cheese pizza; cheddar, feta and mozzarella. i must check what curries I had slated for tomorrow, on the planner. i don't think anything will need to be purchased, but just in case anything could be prepped in advance = more rugger watching opportunity.

    The weather looks decidedly rosier today, so hopefully we will get a wander in, even if it is only to see how far it is.

    Right, BG is as bright as a button this morning, and has taken wriggling to olympian standard, so I had better vamoose.

    Mmm, pizza :j might do that myself if Mr Cheery doesn't have something else planned. Ooh, got dough in freezer - might ring him to get it out :D

    Forgot to tell you Greying I experimented with calzones last week after you made them - never had them before and they were ace! :j Mr Cheery can't eat a lot of fat so pastry is pretty much out in our house but these were ace and felt much more filling than pizza. I made a spinach and mushroom (and possibly chick pea, can't remember) mix amd put a bit of cheddar in too - although not nearly enough cheese rofl

    Might do that again tonight instead of pizza :j had one warmed up the next day and that was fine too :j Most jolly! :j :j

    Have a good day, sun's shining here, hope it is with you too :)
