Good Evening :hello:
Ha ha EH - my teas are far more on the side of 'concoction' than slavishly recipe drivenBut I do understand what you mean, and it helps - or does it? - that i prioritise childcare and cooking about all else. We don't have 'dust bunnies' in our house, we have 'dusty were-rabbits'! :rotfl:If Baby Greying is still smiling at the end of the day, and I have dished up something to eat, I always take that as a win
And rtandon - do you know how close my lunch came to tomato soup and a toasted cheese sanger today???Pity I got held up doing stuff up the high street and ran out of time. I did have a (normal) cheese sanger though
beanie - lovely to *see* you as always
Tea this evening was chilli and rice. I fancied a really bean-laden chunky version, so it incorporated 2 tins of red kidney beans, a tin of chopped tommies, onion, garlic and a chopped up yellow pepper that I got from mrW for 10p last week. I still have one of the peppers left :T The rice was mrS basiks. I put a dollop of natural yoghurt on the top and 'strew magnificently' chopped coriander and paprika flakes all over the top for added poncePicture here;
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
that I got to see Baby Greying do something new for the first time - how do they learn this stuff???
that Baby Greying played contentedly whilst I completed some onerous paperwork
that Baby Greying and a stranger gave smiles to each other whilst they engaged in peek-a-boo........................
Thanks for popping in, reading and letting us know about barginacious veg. Appreciated. Always.

My apologies for not saying hello earlier :doh:
I just got carried away with the new Super 6 (Must post on Greying's thread - she and the Pilgrimers will want to know) and don't say hello as well.
So hello
I'm also a bit distracted as we are moving very soon but seem to be dealing with numpty solicitors :mad: Just hurry up!!

Hope everything is settled very very soon Bear.

Thank you :kisses3:
We seem to have the world's slowest solicitors. They were recommended by our estate agents (who are brill) but they have been so slow - not chasing things up and not replying to phone calls from the other sides solicitors.
Hopefully - please cross everything - we will exchange contracts this week. And then we're off to the seaside :T0 -
Happy baby and tasty food is definitely a win Greying! :T
That S6 DOES look good - I'm seeing stew, and cauliflower cheese. Mmmmm Cauliflower cheese.....
And - it suddenly occurred to me - the rice you're having issues with it going sticky - you use the absorbtion method to cook I assume - double the volume of (boiling) water to rice? Bung a lid on and cook to dry? Try this - once it's cooked to dry and off the heat, place a clean folded tea-towel over the pan under the lid, and leave it to stand for 5 minutes. That sometimes fixes the sticky issue. I've no idea if my rice would be sticky if I didn't do it, but out of habit I always rinse it in repeat changes of cold /lukewarm water until no cloudiness is visible in the water. The grains are always separate no matter what the type of rice is.
I got this tip from Madhur Jaffrey's TV Indian cookery prog in the Seventies. I think she mentioned fourteen changes of water.
I think I mentioned it before too but never mind.
Looking back, that's ridiculous. Who in India could afford to waste that much water just washing rice?Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Good Morning :hello:
To nick a quote from dearest Pippi - it is decidedly a *rocks in pockets* kinda day round these 'ere parts :eek:Upsidedown_Bear wrote: »Hopefully - please cross everything - we will exchange contracts this week. And then we're off to the seaside :T

No you are quite right EH - it's just that I'm a cantankerous s0d and resent having to do 'extra' steps, which normally I don't need to do, with rice which is only marginally more expensive (given that it cooks better and tastes better than this mrS crAp). However, due to peaking twirly with tea prep last night, I did actually reheat the rice in the microwave - which further dried it out - so it was less sticky. i still cannot wait to finish the stuff though, bleurgh!
mcculloch - that is the problem with this rice - you rinse it and the water immediately takes on the appearance of milk. I too always queried the point that rice would be washed so many times in countries where fresh, plentiful potable water is not in universal supply. I remember sharing a house for a very short time, with a french man, umpty tumpty years ago. He was insistent on washing rice until the water ran clear. He did also not believe in refridgeration - he made rice and pancakes all the time and left them out on the counter for days....... :eek:
I think we need only stick our head out of the window to get a dollop of fresh air today. But if the winds abate, i may try to get out and about.
Buddha/salad bowl for tea tonight. I will be using some of the feta-style cheese that i picked up from h3ron for 69p. Only a 5p saving on mrT/mrA et al salad style cheeses, so it'll be interesting to see how taste/texture compares. Beetroot, dates, brown rice and some sort of dressing will be in the mix too. i was going to have spinach, but if we don't go out, I won't have any. There were YS'd bags in m&$ on Sunday, but i didn't think they would last until today - they might have done, but even 30p is wasted if you have a bag of fermenting compost in your fridge 4 days later
Right, best get shifting-a-tail feather. There's always housework if I need to occupy my hands........ :rotfl:
