Good Morning :hello:
Now Silver Queen, I think I may upset folk if i talk about making cake with my eggs. They will start dreaming of lucious, oohey-gooey cakey - and it's only just breakfast time..... No, I think that the remaining half-dozen eggs won't be making their way into a cake. I have notions of egg mayo sangers for a couple of them :j and something savoury; omlette/frittata/bake pencilled in for the remaining eggs. So no cake this weekI did freeze the cake that I made the other day, so Family Greying will enjoy cake this week, I just won't be baking any cake. Thank you for the suggestion of making cake though - although I don't think there were any other cake recipes in JM's new book to try out - as I already make a version of the chocolate pear cake (I use tinned pears too), so I'll take a pause on cake making. I did buy an extra tin of fruit salad though, so in future there may be cake............

beanie - I actually have some arnica cream! Go meBut actually it looks OK. BG was very, very lucky. The way they landed, I thought there actually would have been more blood _pale_ Someone was looking after them.... (again!)
I am delighted to report that the kentish strawberries were utterly lush. Not as good as sun-kissed, straight off the plant from grandad's garden, but good for 'bought' stawberries. And a world of difference between them and the ones I bought in M&$ in May for a supposed 'treat'. I think what I'm most pleased about though is that it is seasonal british produce, tasting good at it's supposedly 'optimum' harvest time, for a reasonable price. Why can't more British produce be like this. Why is stuff imported half way around the globe often cheaper - and sometimes (rarely in the case of strawberries) it tastes better too!

Good Morning :hello:
We had courgette dalcha with rice last night for tea. A colleague of DH's very kindly gifted us some HG courgettesSo they got used up
There was enough for 2 main meals and a portion left over.
This morning I did a 'Jack Monroe' and sorted out the different beans in my b1rdz ey3 bags (2 for £1 from h3r0n). I now have 2 pots of chickpeas, 2 of black beans and 2 of red kidney beans. It's a slightly tedious thing to do, but it does open up opportunities to make more with the contents than 'just' chilli, or 'just' curry. I now intend to make; hoummus with the chickpeas, Black bean Daal with the black beans (as I have a tin of green lentils in stock) and spicy red kidney bean and lentil soup with the RKB's - although I shall use red spilt lentils. The daal and soup recipes can be found in JM's 'Tin Can Cook'.
I would like to go out for a quick picnic lunch today, but DH is intent on doing DIY. Even though he's got the wrong stuff and now has to wait until the shops are open and then spend time getting the stuff he needs, before he starts the DIY..........<rollseyessmiley>
I've got some budgetary admin to do. I'm hopeful I could shoe-horn a bit of crafting in too, but that might have to take a back-seat.
Porridge and toast has been munched.
Better shuffle orf and so summat.
Ta for popping by.

Good Evening :hello:
beanie - I shall be interested what you think about the book from a FB perspective.
rtandon - come over to the dark side....... :bdaycake: :rotfl:
Today has been a bit...... fraught. I was actually sat with my head in my hands at one point, saying, 'this is ridiculous....' But then BG mimicked me 'to a T' so I burst out laughing........We've mostly made it through, and there have been positives, so all in all, chalked up as a win
Tea was JM's spicy lentil and red kidney bean soup from the Tin Can Cook. I did substitute red split lentils though, as the green lentil tins that I have (mrA own label) are only 390g (265g drained) and i needed the soup for a main meal, not a starter, so it would have worked out an expensive soup to use 2 x tinned lentils (to make enough for 2 x greedy guts). It is easy enough to make, and whilst my version was obviously different, because I used different lentils, I could 'see' what the dish was supposed to be like (IYSWIM). For me, the recipe isn't a keeper - which is actually NO reflection on it's value, nor Jack as a recipe writer. It's simply a case that it's very similar to a number of lentil soup recipes (including green lentil versions), that I - as a vegetarian interested in cooking - already have in my arsenal. For me there was no 'added value' to make it worth popping in my recipe index. I did blitz the soup slightly - not absolutely smooth like Jack suggests, and whilst I didn't add milk to mine, I did add in lemon juice and (YS'd) chopped coriander. Only becuase I had some. It was a nice tea, I'm glad I made it, I just won't keep the recipe.
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
perseverance - although it was hard at the time to see the wood for the trees.......
BG's mimicry and improvisation skills - they crack me up :rotfl:
DIY progress - although it's painfully s.l.o.w...........
T afor popping in. Appreciated.

I have bought the same mixed beans from h3r0n and I never thought about separating them out - good idea!
Do you add tahini to your houmous recipe? I want to have a go at making my own but I can't afford tahini - could I use sunflower seeds or sesame oil?0 -
I've lurked on this thread a bit and read some entries and finally sucked up the guts to comment.
The lentil soup recipe sounds good. I'm pretty similar in terms of recipes. I'm a vegan with a stock pile of recipes and though I do try other versions and they are nice, I tend not to keep them unless they're better than what I already have. It also makes me feel pretty smug when I remember the hummus recipe I came up with that no other home made recipe has come near! haha.
Do you have a lot of recipes in this thread? I'm a sucker for trying new things and have a mountain of tinned beans/lentils, as well as dried lentils and frozen stuff to work my way through...
All the best and I look forward to checking back in on your progress. :cheesy:0
