    Good Evening :hello:

    3 T's. Tantrummy.Toddler.Tuesday.

Moving swiftly on. Before I cry

As it turned out, I didn't have Jack's 9p burgers for tea. By the time the dust had settled, it was getting too late to make them and give them a good blast in the freezer (veggie burgers always cook better from frozen), before tea-time. So i have made the mix up (will need to form the burgers now), but we actually had 'Thursday's' tea tonight - which was Turlu, and it was served with brown basmati rice. Actually mucho better choice for the prevailing weather conditions which were wet , grey and miserable with us, not to mention cold too. I did substitute green beans (frozen) for the runner beans and my peppers were frozen from h3r0n, not fresh.

I did get a tommy bargain today. I ventured into our market and found a punnet of cherry toms for 99p. They were 'seconds' or 'glut' or 'rejects' or something - but in my opinion, it's the sort of stuff you should be able to find in markets - that's supposed to be the rationale. Anyway, when I got home, I did weigh them, and they were 750g - which to me represents value for 99p. They taste perfectly fine too - as good as anything you'd get in a supermercado (but not fresh off the vine in your grandad's greenhouse ;)).

BG remembered that they liked nectarines, and devoured one of the m&$ YS'd ones :D

I'm quitting whilst I'm ahead and DH negotiating BG into bed...........

    Today i am grateful for these 3 things;

all the good things that happened in between the carp

having a reasonable back-up plan for tea

    children's book illustrators :T

    Ta for popping in. Appreciated.

Sorry to hear you had a 3-T day GP - sending a hug just to bolster you up - xox

Thank-you for posting links to both the burgers & the torlu. We are stuck in a bit of a meat-free Monday rut and have had this lovely concoction for 8 weeks running! :o We need to develop a bit more of an arsenal of quick cook recipes for Monday, so might give your two a second looking.

Had bit of a lookey at Jack's new(?) website while I was there & am loving her tinned recipe book! May try a couple of the recipes off the website first before 'splurging' on the book ;) Have you given any of them a bash GP? I'm liking premise that healthy does not always need to be fresh or frozen...

ETA - in that Monday rut recipe we substitute miso for the truffle paste & Worcestershire for the braggs - crumpets for the bread & whatever mushrooms happen to be on sale - we are still mse wannabes afterall...:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Ta for the hug rtandon much appreciated :D

No, I can't say as I have tried any of JM's new stuff.

I had her 'bootstrap' book from the library a little while ago, erm I don't think there was anything wrong with the book/recipes, they simply weren't for me. I gained - and still use - something like a dozen? recipes from her first book, I'm not sure I've used owt from any of her follow up cookbooks. If the new 'tin' cookbook came into our library system, I would certainly borrow it.

But certainly her tireless actions on behalf of foodbanks are to be applauded, and I'm sure that the recipes will be much used. Hopefully she is continuing to inspire people to cook, who may never have had the confidence before. She already has made a great legacy to budget cookery, and is still continuing to work for the public's benefit. Go Jack! :D

    Good Morning :hello:

Today is a new day - onwards and upwards!

I was mulling over cookbooks whilst I tried to drift off to sleep last night and was thinking that I don't particularly favour any cookbook as such these days - irrespective of the author's cooking/chef/or celebrity status. I am more inclined to use recipes off the internet - interspersed with a recipe or two gleened from cookbooks (mostly borrowed from the library). The common factor for me is that I rarely follow a recipe to the letter, and substitute like mad! However, do you know, that is because I am lucky enough to have the basics of cookery fundamentals under my belt, I have pots and pans, utensils and something to cook on in a covered space. That is not lost on me, and I don't take it for granted.

Tea tonight should be black bean chilli with lime cream (yoghurt) and rice. In theory. Watch this space for developments through the day....... :rotfl:

i will shape the burgers today and put them in the freezer for tea tomorrow night. I will also start to turn my attention to formulating a meal plan for next week.

Need a couple of bits of shopping today - of the milk, bread, salad leaves variety :D. Have one teeny admin thing to do - but have been procrastinating over it for a while, so not sure it will be done today :o

Can't think of owt else :money: so best vamoose.

    Ta for popping in. Appreciated.

    Good evening :hello:

We've had a lovely day - 100% improvement on yesterday :j BG has been good, not so good and down-right cute in the correct proportions, so I think it passes as 'normal' in family life :D

BG put some pennies (sweeping of their CHB and the penny collection) into their bank account. As ever, the bank staff were lovely and friendly, and BG continues to enjoy visiting. BG even insisted on putting their passbook back in the holder today - and managed it first go :j

We purchased some bananas and DH got the bread/milk etc on the way home. I must settle up with DH.

I didn't get round to chomping my admin frog (I'm so pathetic!), but I did form the burger mixture into patties. I got 7 out of 2 x tins of red kidney beans, a carrot, 2 small red onions and a bit of porridge oats. I try to get the burgers to approx 100g (I know that sounds pedantic, but it makes for a more even cooking time), and used my burger press to press them. They are now in the freezer awaiting their fate! ;)

Tea was black bean chilli, but I plum forgot about the lime crema (yoghurt) so the limes will have to be used up in curry! :D The recipe I use was from a vegetarian cookbook that I bought YONKS ago - I mean seriously, I was 'young' when i got it......... It was by Marlena Spieler - who is still writing cookbooks and cooking - and was called something like 'the vegetarian flavours of southern california'. I no longer have the book, but have several recipes that I still make from it - this was one, but obviously it only takes a pot of pasta boiling over to take my eye off the ball and make me forget the lime cream addition!! Anyhoo, the chilli was nice enough, and I think it was JaymeeO that mentioned that black beans have..... is it the highest protein value of any of the pulses? I cooked up a whole bag of black beans (from mrS) in the PC and have put half of the (cooked) beans in the freezer for another day/meal. we had the chilli with ordinary basmati.

    Today I am grateful for these 3 things;

savings - even miniscule balances may help BG eventually......

    sunshine

my pressure cooker - makes cooking beans soooo easy :j

    Ta for popping by. Appreciated.

I've always wondered about that statement. Why should you be punished if you are doing something good/nice.

And yet it is true, you do summat nice and get hit with carp.

I went to our nearby-ish other town today. I wanted to get on and give the foodbank donation that I've been planning for a while. I have decided to split the donation between 2 banks, I would have done 3 - including the one that is crying out for stock, but being realistic, I can't easily get to that FB on the day it is open, and actually getting to give my donation would be an issue, as I'm not familiar with the layout of the town.

Anyway, I had done some shopping to get max. value for the portion that I was giving to this food bank - we filled 4 big bags. I sorted it all out in the car-park putting together all the food from various shops. I turfed BG out of the pushchair, loaded that up with bags of our donations, and set off from the carpark to the FB. The FB was fine, you can go to a discrete back door to give over things - it was before the opening hour anyway, but I wouldn't have embarrased any clients - as they go in via a different entrance. Coming away from the FB, having been thanked, and pleased that I had done 'half' of what I had set out to do, I looked to use the pedestrian crossing to cross the road. BG wanted to press the button (why are the buttons so far away from the crossing point?), and we positioned ourselves at the edge of the pavement to cross. I had BG on reins, and was holding their hand, and I had the pushchair (unfolded) in my other hand. As we were waiting to cross (light on red), a van (guess which colour?) pulled up and blocked half the crossing/dropped curb, on the other side of the road. I just looked at the driver who looked back at me, and pulled forward to obscure the dropped curb even more. A car in the lane nearest me stopped as the lights had turned red. The lights then turned to green (for me) and the guy just sat in his van looking at me. So as I started to cross the road, I thanked him so much (my actual words) for blocking a pedestrian crossing. At this point the guy jumped out of his van - swore violently at me and jumped back in his van, flicking the V's (I'd just about managed to reach the safety of the other pavement at this point). So when I pointed out that he was using vile language in front of a small child - he jumped out of the van again. I pointed out to him, that it was him that was in the wrong, parking on a pedestrian crossing and blocking it - when he could see that someone was using it. More expletives followed, and he jumped back in his van.

    What is wrong with people?

10 yards up the road, we had to cross a road again (no pedestrian crossing, just dropped curbs) and two drivers - on each carriage way, actively waved us across, even though on both occasions, they could have moved forward (blocking the crossing point or not, one had to stop for a junction, the other had free passage on the road ahead). They helped us and delayed their journey (by a nano-ish second), and yet someone else actively goes out of his way to make it difficult for someone to cross - on a legitimate crossing.

Who swears at a someone who has a small child with them? Who does that?

I'm really starting to lose my faith in the world. I really am.

I believe that some people have always been like that, it is just that other (normal) people's presence has restrained their behaviour. As less & less people seem to appear in public there are less & less people around to stop people like him behaving like that. The comments people make about others online seem to give everyone permission to behave in any dreadful way they like. Entitled seems an appropriate word & it has certainly got worse since the Brexit thing started.

Fortunately, as you have discovered there are still the good guys around.
