Good Evening :hello:
We've had a lovely day today. Lots of exercise, fresh air and sunshine
I wandered over to the other side of Greying Town, to mrA, to get some tofu, as it is currently the cheapest price - with the exception of when mrL have it on offer. I picked up a few things from HB on the way - including a jolly spiffing savoy cabbage for 59pIn mrA I bumped into my 'booking in' midwife, who was hale and hearty and just as bubbly, yet no-nonsense as she was when I was 'under her care'. She and a midwifery student were calm and professionalism personified when we went in later on in pregnancy with a 'lack of movement' concern. I don't, however, think that BG has given us a LoM concern since......... :rotfl:Still it was interesting that I bumped into her, as I am a little of the mind of serendipity and 'signs'. And it was at booking in that I discovered that my BMI at 'oh my gosh, you're how old????' was exactly the same as it was 20 years previously - as was my weight. And what weight do I wish to return to? You guessed it. So, mmmmmm gotta keep on with the exercising and fitness
Having said that, the scales are resolutely stuck at 12lbs too much a the minute :mad:
Tea this evening was a salad bowl, with tofu the star. I was going to wing it, using tofu, savoy cabbage and brown rice, and I knew I wanted to use up some oranges. But I did have a goggle, and ended up using THIS recipe for inspiration - and NO, I did NOT rush out and buy some kale........................ I used what I had which was savoy cabbage...I improvised and swapped like crazy, but marinated the pressed tofu in sesame oil, orange juice, ginger, chilli flakes, honey, salt, cider vinegar, nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves. I steamed the shredded savoy and made up my normal tahini/miso/citrus dressing and used some to dress the hot cabbage, onto which I then sprinkled sesame and nigella seeds. The rice was steamed and had taosted sunflower, pumpkin seeds and chopped walnuts mixed through it. The tofu was fried on each side and served on top of the rice and cabbage. I used some left over seeds and walnuts to sprinkle over the top and the rest of the tahini/miso/citrus dressing. Whilst the bowl wasn't worthy of 1nstgRam, it was attractive, and tasted fresh and quite light. I think if I had some tenderstem brocolli or purple sprouting brocolli, that would have been just lush in the dressing.
Stuffed now
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
a fulfilling day
a nice chat with a very kind and funny lady
nice enough weather to get out and about

Good Morning :hello:You are very lucky it is only 12 lbs :rotfl:
Agreed sweetie, but isn't the last stone always the hardest?
Right, end of the week already.
I don't think I need to buy anything today. We're OK for all the staples and the stores are still bulging.
I think it will be pizza and wedges for tea tonight, probs black olive pizza. But going forward, i'm thinking of making some changes, and possibly not having pizza every friday night. Perhaps once a month, and perhaps on a different night. I'd really prefer to do pizza and salad-y bits, but the prep is too much with darling BG about (for a 'routine' meal), plus, salads can sometimes end up being quite costly.......... I've been following the 'leftovers', 'soup' , 'something with rice', 'buddha bowl', 'pizza &wedges', 'curry', 'fish & chips', model according to the days of the week for some while now, and I fancy a minor shake up. I think I'll stick with soup - not necessarily on a Tuesday, but it works well and I like the simplicity (or you can make soup complicated if you like). I've nowt set in stone, but I'm pondering along those lines. I'm also concious that I rarely used the 'budddha bowl' in it's true context - ie using up 'bitsa', and sometimes bought 'new' for it, so although I love the name, it'll be 'salad bowl' going forward........
Don't think I've owt else :money: to report. Dry January is going well, we're not missing alcohol at all, which is just as well, as the boiler has yet to be serviced!
Ta for popping in. Appreciated.

It is important that we know where we come from, because if you do not know where you come from, then you do not know where you are, and if you don't know where you are, then you don't know where you are going. If you don't know where you're going, you're probably going wrong.

Aw, thank you for thinking of me when you're probs up to ya oxters in snow!
Well, today has whizzed, but I've been doing 'something' for the most parts of it, so that's good i supposeAll housework/tidybits/prepping food.
I have made Sweet potato and chickpea jalfrezi ready for tomorrow night's tea. Weather depending, we're planning a little trip out and about to a small rural market town to the north. And if we do get there and back, I don't want to have to be werriting about what to get for us tea. So I planned ahead!Hopefully it will taste even better tomorrow too, for being standing a day
Tea tonight was black olive pizza, as slated, with 'bambino' potatoes (ys'd from m&$) chopped up and baked. The tatties were quite tasty
I forgot to say that I bought a 750g block of cheese from M&$ - that had been YS'd to £3. It was mature cheddar - not the cornish nor welsh versions, umm....... 'The collection' or summat? Anyhoo, it worked out marginally cheaper than the MrL and MrAl versions of the same cheese. I only bought one block though, as there is no room in my freezer for cheese - even if I grated it.
Today i am grateful for these three things;
BG's emerging grasp of pronunciation - don't ask how 'fork' is said........... :rotfl:
for being able to get out and about in the sunshine
for getting on top of a few household chores for once..........

What is this "sun shine" of which you speak?
I spat some of my brew when I read about the bairn's pronunciation of fork... reminded me of a friends wee laddie yelling at the top of his voice to his mum that he wanted a fork and knife, in a similar style in a restaurant ... his mum was totally, "Black affronted", the Scottish term for acute embarrassmentBUGGRITMILLENIUMHANDANDSHRIMP I TOLD EM! - Foul Ole Ron

As well as a very dodgy 'fork', my DD used to say 'sock' in a similar way.
We had a friend who was Puerto Rican and he was totally horrified at DD's language. No amount of protesting 'She means SOCK' convinced him...
I haven't seen or heard 'Black affronted' outside the pages of the Sunday Post, thanks for using it!Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again...
