  • Good Morning :hello:

Cheery - I don't think that I'm that organised, but I'm definitely doing better with weekly meal-planning than monthly. Plus if I 'sub' it's usually for a good reason (found a bargain, or been gifted produce) rather than 'CBA'd'.

rtandon - our training of these menfolk is working.............;):D

apple - is that any brand of frozen broc? I know what you mean. It is difficult to get anywhere near right, and I think it takes far longer to cook than I ever assume it will :(

mcculloch - I know the brand you used! And I agree, frozen spinach is becoming the 'rocking horse deposit' of the frozen veg world. FF did still do it, and mrT - but the price in the regular supermercados............. Seemingly 'Kale' is where it's at........... Which has to me, and always will be, been regarded as cattle fodder - I'm not sold on 'Kale smoothies,' people............;) I had to consider the 'wobble' factor of any s/h furniture - flatpack or no. At the end of the day, any child's furniture is going to be bumped into, climbed into, climbed onto, and generally put through it's paces. BG is already delighting in opening and closing draws..... just because they can.....*Sigh*

Right, I've got to be up and at 'em today.

Friend coming around later. Cake is baked. Lunch half way through being prepped. Comb not yet stuck through hair..........

It'll be a lsd today, as we'll need more bread and milk. DH will pick up on the way home.

Right, best vamoose, I'm always embarrased about the state of my house, but I want visitors to feel welcome and as comfortable as we can make them in our home, so best get to the fine detail. Plus I've snap to fling in a butty box :D

Ta for popping by and joining in the convo. Appreciated.

  • Hey there all
Happy Monday - lovely to catch up reading on this just echoing all the other grand wishes.

I must say I've never really tried much frozen veg other than peas and sweetcorn, its a legacy from over boiled childhood nightmares. All this chat on here has made me think that I need to check it out again perhaps.

    Thank you.

I'm a kale lover, sorry pet, but I have no history with it aside in my own garden.

Hope you have fun with your chum today.

    :)

Kale - ugh. Tried it. Binned it. Tried it again. Binned it again. Have learned my lesson - no more trying!

I find frozen spinach in my Mr Al (although it disappeared over cmas in favour of some parsnip or pre-prepared veg concoction...) or Icyland.

Been laughing at the kale debate this morning, thanks everyone! OH always tries to put Kale in our food but I can’t stand it stirred in to things, I have to have it separately on my plate. I do however love Cavelo Nero! So rich in iron and really delicately flavoured compared to it’s curly sibling!

  • Good Evening :hello:

Tsk! You leave your thread unattended for just a minute and come back to find it full to the gunnels of Kale! Bleurk! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

apple muncher - I had a proper look at the frozen veg section in our mrAl tonight, and we had no spinach, and no evidence of a SEL for such a product. You are lucky to have them stock it at yours, especially if it is a good price.

Everyone else, I am not talking to you about THAT green stuff :silenced: ...:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    WannaBeFree -

Tea last night was Spicy Butternut squash, sweet potato & chickpea soup, which is a Cov3nt Gard£n soup company recipe that I have had for yonks. I didn't have any BNS left, so left it out, but it was perfectly fine. The recipe that I have linked to doesn't add in fresh coriander (chopped) at the end - my version has this, and I think it is a nice finish to the soup - but is all dependent on you having some to hand, I guess. I was thrilled that BG ate some of this soup :j although they balked at my HM bread roll :o:(

Tea tonight was courtesy of a recipe that dearest muddywhitechicken passed onto us here at the thread, umpty-tumpty years ago, and was Afghan Carrot Hotpot. I made mine today with red split lentils, as I have plenty, and it meant that I didn't have to buy anything especially for tea - in keeping with UFM - January. I served it with basmati rice, steamed. It was just the tea for such a bitterly cold day, along with being easy to prepare and meeting the frugal fare criteria.

I made my deposit in the foodbank box again today - after seeing it full last week, and playing jenga to get last weeks deposit in, I had hopes that it would be passed on to those in need. But no, it was still sat in the same place, and now with my deposit today, is overflowing.......... Thing is, I can't complain because I can't do anything to help get it to the people in need - the FB is in a town that I don't go to regularly, and usually not when the FB is open. So I can't do anything about it, but get so frustrated that food that could be used is just sitting doing nothing. I suppose supporting a FB - even in a small way as I do - is a priority for me. I guess it's not a charitable priority for others.

We have managed to get a bit ahead of ourselves today, with tea prepped before teatime - which has been a bit of a theme thus far this week :j (you watch it all come grinding to a halt tomorrow..... :rotfl:), and because DH managed to (legitimately) knick off work early, we'd bathed the baby and had tea before 6.30pm! Which is just as well, as I seem to have worn BG out today, and they were very tired - DH reports that they were asleep as soon as they were laid down in their cot :j can hardly remember the last time that happened  So I'm away to do some crafting and keep orf the electronics, have me 'valerie' tea and then I'm away to my bed.

    Today i am grateful for these 3 things;

    community companionship

    free chocolate :j

extra time with DH & BG
    - priceless :D

Ta for popping in, reading and joining in the convo, even if it is about THAT stuff _pale_ Which I have never been able to grow without it being infested with white fly :(

The difficulty sometimes with the FB donations is getting someone able bodied to pick them up & deliver when the FB is open.

I agree with you entirely beanie - and it could well be the case in this instance. i guess I don't see why this organisation bothers supporting the FB - because they are not in effect. The collection box is v small and hidden away, and when folks bother to put things in - which isn't all the time, they then sit there for weeks. I agree that the people taking the stuff to the FB need to be able-bodied and have transport in this instance, as the FB is some distance away. Perhaps they would be better off collecting cash and making a financial donation to the FB instead? I'm just going to have to re-think my giving, there is little or no point in getting frustrated, and I can't do anything to help this situation, because whilst I'm able-bodied and slightly to the left of the 'older' cut off line......... ;) I haven't got the transport available, at the time it needs to be available.......:o
