  • Good Evening :hello:

How on earth, can I put into words, or even, capture - somehow, Baby Greying's enchantment, and it is enchantment, with our Christmas tree? Our tree is nowt special. It is artificial, only 'so' high and has a mix of practical and 'special' baubles, lights and doodads on it, and is nowt special......... But l'il BG is absolutely enamoured with it. They pull either DH or me, or, ideally, us both, by the hand to 'see' the tree. They point out special bits to us, or find things at our behest. BG was sat on my lap, in the dark earlier, quiet and still, just gazing at the tree. I love it, adore it, didn't know it was going to be this special. And I don't want it to go. I want to hold onto this memory forever. words, video, pictures, paintings, nothing can 'capture' the essence of this moment. And money can't buy it.

I am one lucky personage. And I realise it.

Tea was lentil bolognese, with pasta. A Greying family favourite. There is sufficient bolognese leftover to freeze, which will be good for Boxing day, or a day 'betwixt' chrimbobs and the NY - bolognese over baked tatties would be particularly good :D

I got on with my crafting and sort of completed one bit, aside from the 'finishing'. And as any crafters will know, the 'finishing' oft takes longer than the making.........

    Today I am grateful for;

It is important that we know where we come from, because if you do not know where you come from, then you do not know where you are, and if you don't know where you are, then you don't know where you are going. If you don't know where you're going, you're probably going wrong.

  • Good Morning :hello:

Thanks UncannyScot - it's a tremendous feeling to have, I just never expected it to be so emotional/overwhelming, it's such a small thing, and yet so special.......

INOD - kettle primed and switched on :D Plenty of tea bags and milk :D

So, here we are at Thursday already. The shortest day :j Winter Solstice :jThe light returneth from here on in :j

I'm pretty sure that we're OK for stores, so I may well achieve a nsd today. We will definitely get out and about for some fresh air and exercise :D

Tea this evening will be a kind of buddha bowl. Featuring the buffalo mozarella I picked up the other day, and some items from stores and the fridge. I don't think that I will need to purchase anything new for tea, anyhoo - I'll certainly try my hardest to avoid additional purchases.

Can't think of anything else MS to witter on about. Although I must start to find the time to do the 'exercises' prior to the January UFM. Right, I'm away to 'finish' lots of itty bitty bits. See ya'll soo. And ta everso, for popping by. Appreciated :D

  • Greying you reminded me of when our young nephew first properly saw fireworks - the very first year he was of an age to actually watch rather than just sleeping through them - he sat in his pushchair with an expression of utter wonder on his face - it was such a special moment! Treasure and note the moments with BG - while they'll individually only come along the once, there will be many more of them to come!

  • How wonderful Greying :T

I have a very lovely memory of the Christmas Tree we had when I was a child. Looking back, it was a poor thing. 3ft tall and made of thin silver tinsel. It was hung with my grandmother's glass, tear drop baubles and a variety of Christmas characters made from pipe cleaners. I can still see the square panes of the window or the flames of the coal fire reflected in the glass. I would spend hours just staring at those images and feeling the magic of Christmas.

You are creating memories for Baby G that will stay with them forever.

  • I have very few photos of me with my family - they are all in my brother's attic - but a family friend found one in her late mother's collection of us both with my parents and siblings, and her mother. It was taken in our front room on Boxing Day 1958, and the Christmas tree is just on the edge of the photo. I am on my mother's lap and entranced by it.
The photo was taken by Uncle Z, our friend's father. Something slightly weird, I always assumed my brother or friend had a series of photos, somewhere, taken over the years, as I clearly remember seeing Uncle Z. with a camera on a tripod in the front room. I would have had to have recall of a memory from seven months of age.
Apparently, I have recall of a memory from seven months of age.
My tree is alongside me as I type, into its 37th Christmas. It took four hours to decorate, and I gave myself RSI. There are hundreds of decorations on it, I'd rather not think about the collective value, but it may well be into four figures. Some decorations were well over a tenner each.
My tree is so special to me. It symbolises my Christmas, brings me so many memories with all its decorations, bought as holiday souvenirs, made thirty or more years ago, bought when my children were still in kindergarten.

Yup, trees are special. Very special.

  • Good Morning :hello:

EH - you made me think about BG's reaction on meeting Father Christmas, and just how loud they screamed in my ear, and just how tightly their eyes scrunched up...... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Lots of memories of these 'experiences' accumulating already :D

Fortune - that is a wonderful memory to hold. Ihope that in future years BG can feel the same about aspects of our celebrations, although I'm sure we'll not always get it right.......

mcculloch - shows how powerful memories can be. Here's hoping we can shape as many good ones as possible :D

Tea last night was cheap and cheerful and very colourful according to DH :D It was brown basmati rice with lentils, indian sprout and carrot curry, beetroot and mozarella with a ginger dressing (based on a Maria Elia recipe, and sadly not available online :() I didn't buy anything 'new' for the dish. The mozarella was the most expensive item, at 39p. But it was a meal for the solstice - I don't think I pushed the boat out too far, and it tasted nice :D

Tea tonight is going to be l/o pizza from the freezer and dirty tattie wedges.

    I had a nsd yesterday :j

Can't think of owt else MSing, so best get on.

Ta for popping in and chatting. Greatly appreciated.

Morning Greying. What a lovely experience for both you and BG! This is what Christmas is all about for me. Kids honestly don't need ALL. THE. TOYS. They need to help put up the tree (no matter how awful it looks lol!), they need the excitement of counting all the houses with lights in the window. They will remember the things you did as a family, not the presents. You are fab parents. Never forget that x
