  • Good Evening :hello:
Ah trades - the last we had in wore those shoe protectors and we've not heard a whiff from him since.

So if I get one that turns up in those, that's no guarantee that they are any the more interested in doing work and getting paid? :( I don't understand. If I ran a business, and had too much work on, I would say. If the job was too big/too small, I would choose my phrasing, but I would say. If I was scared of the dog/the cat/the fella/the lass, I would lie and claim I was too busy.........:rotfl:But not to follow-up a visit with a quote?

:D to baby G's radar. Babys know stuff.

Is it a thing? Really? I mean i wasn't quite sure yesterday, and wondered if I was just being fanciful, but when similar glances etc started happening again today....... and it's not a gender thing, they are not more grumpy around blokes and all smiles around women, it is as though they weigh people up........

Well, tea was the very essence of a buddha bowl, in the sense that I scratted around to put summat on the table, after being scuppered by mrT's apparent reluctance to.... um, y'know, stock food items....... *sigh*. I suspect that I won't be wasting my time in our local one for a while, seeking out avocado halves.

So, I put on a plate; the remaining 'smoky lentil burgers' that were rectangular, as I'd made the mix too wet and resorted to setting it in a tray, rather than trying to form it into burger patties; a baked potato (variety: Estima - totally fluffy and bakedpotatoesque), cooked in the microwave and finished off in the oven, creamed sweetcorn - frozen, so de-frosted, blitzed with a stick blender and mixed with the remainder of the ricotta cheese and some chipotle chilli flakes and some baked beans (mrL). I didn't take a pic, as it was 'leftovers' :D and we were both starving.

    Today I am grateful for these 3 things;

mother & baby time - BG and I were together all day, and yet it was this afternoon, when all visitors had departed; that we shared a lovely one-to-one time, absolutely priceless.

everyone showed up - lawks, you really do have to celebrate the small stuff....... :T:rotfl:

that the larder and freezer provided
    - where the supermercado could not................

Ta for popping in, reading and joining in. Mucho, mucho appreciated. As ever.

  • Chasing tradespeople is a full time job!

    I agree!
I wouldn't expect people to traipse grubby work boots through a clean house though! (mind you, maybe they didn't want you to whiff their socks... )

That is precisely what I said to DH :rotfl: and given the 'workmanlike' aroma, I suspect there was probably more credence in that explanation! :rotfl:
I'm thinking if my present career ever falls through, I'll set myself up as a really polite, reliable, cheerful plasterer who does all the cleaning up after myself and always responds promptly to inquiries :D I reckon there's a fortune to be made :D :rotfl: :rotfl: :D

At the moment, the plasterer is the only chap, (along with the electrician) who has come when he said he would, stuck to his prices each time, cleaned up after himself/not been overly messy in the first place and been a pleasure to have in the house. There, I've jinxed that now! :rotfl:

To the first question yes it would seem so, donning shoe protectors is no real sign of any type of quote.

Perhaps they're too busy buying shoe protectors? :rotfl:

As to the second absolutely - I think they do.

I mean my DD use to scream the house down when dear daddy picked her up and look at how that turned out.

Silly daddy indeed. :rotfl: she knew stuff.

And we're delighted you're posting too.

    Have a great Friday.

I've already been in stitches umpteen times this morning, coz of you :D:rotfl: :kisses3:

Ha, end of the week. Again.

One of the interesting things one of the chaps said yesterday was that whilst us adults have been banging on for yonks about, 'Time flying', apparently, it is now afflicting the yoof. As a 16 yr old grandchild had been heard to ponder, 'Where's the year gone? It's half-term, and yet we only went back to school 5 minutes ago......

    *sigh* I feel old...... :)

The house is our own today. I might tidy it if I can keep my eyes open for long enough.

Tea should be mozarella pizza with hm potato wedges. Sez so on t'planner! :rotfl: I must buy cheese though, as there ain't enough to satisfy a mouse; a big bad one, nor a little brown one....... ;)

I can always compose and write out the meal plan for next week, [STRIKE]if I need distraction activities [/STRIKE]if I find time after housework :D

Right, Baby Greying is full of beans, bouncing on my lap, edging ever closer to the keyboard, attempting to play Tchaikovskys no 1 for piano! :rotfl:

I'll quit whilst i've still words on the page :D

Ta for popping in,reading and making me LOL. Much needed and much appreciated :D

Yes, meal planning has been on my list, too. It still is, I haven't done much of it! :rotfl:

BG's activities remind me though - I must put beans in to soak...

Wow, busy, what is it about having tradespeople come in that is so exhausting too? Its just a conversation, but somehow it becomes an ordeal. Not that I can get any tradespeople up here - they're all still busy (rightly) getting people back into flooded homes. I have to remind myself that their need is much, much, much greater than mine and avert my gaze from the lumpy wall and ceiling hole. Its like a form of meditation.
Went to Wilk0s, Bee&Em & HB today but despite lots of possibilities in pyrex or lookalike, I couldn't find the size of bowl that I want. Its more of a mixing bowl than a casserole that needs replacing I have realised. Did a trawl of charity shops too just in case it was in one of those waiting for me, but unlucky today. Several bags donated of clothes, rags, gifts and unused kitchenalia so that was a good thing done. I'll keep a look out.

Hi greying - found your new diary :D

I'm very blessed because I have so many trades peeps in my family so they can't avoid me and tea & biscuits are the only payment. When I lived in England it was a total nightmare as I didn't know who to approach. My sis in England paid for flights for my plumber cousin to come over to sort her house out. The only trade we don't have amongst my cousins is an electrician but we could get one married in :).

 Hello lovely, great to see you :D How much is the flight, and how soon can your plumber cousin be on it :D:rotfl: :T

I love that the heat is on to marry in an electrician :rotfl::D:T An infinitely sensible approach! We've nothing like such occupational diversity! :( And even the policeman and the fireman live too far away to be of any assistance, in the event of us needing either of them :(

Saturday is curry night. I'm trying a 'new to me' recipe. Don't expect it to be too scintillating as it is only a dhal, in effect. But the reason why I copied the recipe down is that it was billed as an 'austerity' dish, and I came across it at around the time 'everydave' was getting on the bus to allinittogethertown. Thought it might come in handy. Think I was right.

We've lovely sunshine this morning. Long may it continue.

It's been a slow start at the towers, but Baby Greying has been looked after and DH has got the first major chore out of the way. Unfortunately, he called in at mrAl to pick up several things, but didn't bother with mrL - and i needed some stuff from there..... ho hum.

Right, I've finished my tea. I'm off in search of a cuppa coffee.

Ta for popping in, reading and giving me a lovely giggle :D

    See y'all later.

Morning lovely Greying and pals, love your cheery thread :D Love the idea of marrying in an electrician :rotfl: Why didn't I think of that?! :rotfl: My family are also useless on that front - me and Mr Cheery are the handy ones and that's not saying much :rotfl: :D

Bought a posh (£3) pizza last night as we had a friend coming round, and managed to burn the edges :o Mr Cheery cut them off with scissors, and he'd also made a risotto, so we didn't starve fortunately :D I made a very nice kind of apple pudding thing - just layers of apples, a few sultanas, a minimal bit of porridge oats, sugar and cinnamon. In the oven til the apples went soft, and served with custard (of course) :D Kind of a bit like crumble ish but without the fat and flour (so not really like crumble, but it had apples in :D )

    Have a good day all!
  • Good Morning :hello:

    Dearest Cheery, you reminded me that Pbucket was playing silly b's last night and i didn't upload my tea pic :o There must have been something in the air though, as we too had apple crumble for dessert. I used up the windfall apples that I had got from a 'FREE, please take some' bucket outside a little shop on the high street. We had ours with vanilla icecream :D Pizza was mozarella, as billed :D And the wedges were HM from the remainder of the 'Estima' potatoes that I had bought from h3ron f00ds. I did the crumble partly to use up the apples, and partly to make best use of the oven, as HM wedges take longer to cook than oven chips (principally because I don't bother with par-boiling). Picture here;

    247_zps0z9rilhv.jpg

Soz, there is no picture of the crumble. We ate it...... well, technically there is a portion left, but who wants to see 'leftovers'.

Baby Greying has been bathed, so we're on a roll :j They are also wearing their new 50p n3xt jeans from the charity shop  They fit, with room for expansion in every direction :D So I am super chuffed with my purchase :D The downside is that I have discovered that a fleecy top that i bought a couple of weeks ago is absolutely useless and will have to go back in the charity shop system or for rags. It is a b00ts brand one, and I have no idea which mammal it was designed to fit, but I don't think human was in the mix. Hippo and giraffe spring to mind. The body is huge, the opening (I now discovered) tiny, the shoulder area is cramped (really what you need when trying to put baby's arms into sleeves......) and the baby is supposed to have a 12 inch neck in order for their nose to clear the 'collar' area. I also discovered, after nearly taking BG's nose orf, that metal zips on children's clothing is a bad idea........ Still, you live and learn I guess.

I was pleased yesterday, I picked up a nice coat for BG when they are older, from a charity shop. It was n3xt brand again (but 'special purchase'), only 3.50 and in really good condition, except..... whoever donated it, hadn't washed it......... but with a bit of WUL and a warm wash, it has come up like new :j It's a really nice coat. Looks smart and will be well worn I think :D I also got a long sleeved n3xt top from Scope - I like that charity shop, they charge £1 for childrens clothing, Infinitely sensible. I also got a t-shirt from BHF - I'd had my eye on it for weeks, as it had a lovely 'pertinent' design on the front. They finally reduced it by 50% (too dear at full for what it was) and so I bought it.

I did a sort out yesterday, of what I have got for BG at what ages/sizes. So i know what I'll need to buy and when. For the most part though, I am pleased with my mix of hand-me-downs, chazza pieces and new things.

Right, more chores to attend to. Got a 'salesperson' coming round this afternoon. Not particularly looking forward to it, but at least DH will be here. I really hope I'm wrong and he just advises, measures up and leaves - and delivers a quote quickly. That's all I need. We're too old for 'patter'.
