O/S Daily Thursday 27 October 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark, but dry underfoot, yesterday when it got light we had thick fog, that eventually lifted and we had some lovely sunshine for most of the day, don't know what today will bring. Hoping to get some washing line dry - we'll see.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work, DS2 still in his pit, but will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night was hot quiche, breaded chicken portions, herby new potatoes, salad, coleslaw/pasta salad. I remembered to get the chicken out of the freezer to defrost, I'll be making chicken, bacon and mushroom pie later, I'll be serving that with mash, veg and gravy - this is a favourite meal in our house.

Work yesterday wasn't that busy doing the job that I was doing, but my colleagues had a manic day with several really difficult cases - it got sorted in the end. I'm now on days' off, but working Saturday morning, so will spend today and tomorrow doing as much as possible, so I can chill Saturday afternoon and Sunday.

I have the normal "to do" list today, so I'll be heading into town first thing to visit the building society and bank, then the butchers before coming home, and cracking on with the chores. I need to spend some time looking for recipes/meals that are different to what we're having as it's getting a bit boring.

Having a bit of a low mood at the moment, so I'm going to keep as busy as I can as it really helps.

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks again NMLC for the thread. Gloomy forecast for today for us, heavy cloud but no rain thank goodness.

Busy, long day ahead. Mr TA has his monthly injection at Leeds this morning, as well as fasting bloods, so need to be away in good time for the tedious journey over. If we can be away from the hospital in good time we intend catching the express bus from Leeds, which stops near DS's new apartment, and have an hour or two with him and check on his progress getting organised! Then we can get the train home from the station near him as we have the 3 DGDs for late tea and sleepover so need to be back here in time to throw tea in the oven and set the table! Manic day of to-ing and fro-ing ahead.

I have a pan of Bolognese on the go to do a large Pasta Bake for tea. Will boil the pasta up shortly and make a cheese sauce to top it with. I'm sure there are a couple of loaves of garlic bread in the freezer which will go nicely with it.

My friend and I had a nice day in Skipton yesterday but it was busy with coach trippers and kids on holiday sadly! We had two attempts at getting a table in the Red Lion (our favourite eatery) but packed to capacity so had to resort to our second choice! This time three books that I really didn't need found their way into my bag! They have joined the big box of other books waiting to be read! Got a few stocking fillers for DGDs too but not a lot else.

Have a good day and (((HUGS))) to all in need/wanting them. RR I hope poor little Evie is settling down now. One of our Border Collies stayed in fear of dratted fireworks all her life. Agree with everyone else on this, organised displays only on the 5th, or better still banned altogether! Take care all xxx

    Morning All

Dry but dark here, a mix of sunshine and showers again I think. No washing to do, I washed the summer quilt from my bed last night - that should be dry later and I can pack that away.

Cleared most of the conservatory yesterday when I got in as the new kitchen is arriving tomorrow, it will have to stay there until the builder has time to do all the work and fit it. Put loads of stuff in the bin that has just been 'hanging around'. Had to work quickly as there is no lighting in there due to the rain coming in through the light fitting!

Busy at work, felt like I couldn't get anything finished yesterday, will try harder today.

Take care on your travels TA. Take care. XX
  • Morning all.
    Thanks nmlc for starting us.
Hope all our 4 legged friends are not getting too stressed with the fireworks.
    Well no change in FIL.
I went to docs yesterday and he has kept me on reduced hours for another 4 weeks. Work is going to flip when I go in today and tell them as it is now our busy time of the year. Keep looking for a part time job but nothing yet.
Dinner last night was pasta as I didn't get back till late from docs.
Did 2 loads of washing yesterday and managed to get 1 and a half dry. Rest is hanging on the airer. Still got 2 loads of bedding to wash and my duvet to get sorted.
Need to do the mountain of ironing when I get back this afternoon as DH has run out of shirts now.
    Anyhoo better get on.
Hugs to all in need xx
    Bright Blessings xx

    Morning all,

Running a bit late here as I did not want to get out of bed, it seems to have been a long week again !

Off to work for me, still at the quiet site which is a nice change from the manic other one.

Little Evie was terrified on her walk last night and could not wait to get home, I read up online and it said not to take her out for a week in the hope that the bad memories might fade, then to make going out 'fun' again with toys and treats will try that and see how it goes.

Something and chips for dinner will go and look in a while, shopping being delivered tonight.

    Have good days all xx

    Morning everyone,

Foggy here again this morning, boy is it dark as well, lamp still on!

Had a chilled out afternoon with Mum yesterday, she was tired as expected so we sat and did her puzzle, the whole family are now addicted to jigsaws again, luckily SIL found a good CS who have a decent supply :) She needs a blood test today for warfarin levels so will take her down to surgery, the GP also wants a review following the visit from the hospice.

Poor little Evie RR, that's a good idea to have a break from the walks for a week. Another one here who would like to see the bloomin things banned apart from organised parties, along with those wretched Chinese lanterns. Another horse was found in its field yesterday with bad burns where one of the flipping things landed on it, imagine that poor animals terror, makes you shudder :(

Anyways, rant over, have a good day everyone, take care folks x
  • Morning all

Hugs to Lainey, Hilstep, both the Wolfies, Evie, the TA's and anyone else in need.

It's very misty here this morning but not that cold.
    .
I've fed the fish, Winston has had his morning constitutional and my L&M has been dropped at work.

We had a letter yesterday from Occ Health regarding hubby's health, it's probably good that it's half term otherwise I could see me lumping his line manager. She has told HR, who have shared with Occ Health, her belief that our home life is the main cause of his illness!

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.

    Morning All :hello:

Cold and damp this morning - hope it perks up later. Had made arrangements to go out with DM this morning but whilst I have this vile head cold (think rattling sinuses and snot forever) I thought better of it. She doesn't need the winter nasties.

I have a big pot of week-ender soup on the go - using up any tired veg in the fridge and I have a couple of small ex-crusty rolls to make into garlic-y herby bread to go with it. Will probably use it for tea with a jacket spud and some salad bits.
Then my fridge will be virtually EMPTY

This is such a big thing for me as a sleepwalking hoarder lol. I've just been down my shopping list making all the 2 ofs into 1 ofs. Tomorrow I get my fresh shop from the farm and a trip to MrTs to replace what I've used this week. Sidenote: my fridge and freezers are both working better full - not jammed solid. Hopefully they'll now last a bit longer too!

Sending hugs/positivity and xxxxx's to all who want them. To those in a dark place - keep going darling - you can do this (and I made soup!) xx. Special thoughts (and candles lit) for LWW, Lainey and anyone who needs some light (jasmine today).

    Have a beautiful Thursday xx

    Morning :hello:

Good idea redruby I hope she recovers quickly xx
Obviously all dogs are different so this might be useless for you, but what works with Scampi is to make the first walk short, then each walk a bit longer than the last one. Millions of treats and over-the-top praise - it keeps his attention on me but I'm well aware that I look and sound like a loon as I'm walking down the road, especially when I have to do some emergency u-turns at the same time :D

Mr tru was at work, a customer came in and said there was a dog running around on the road. They encouraged him in with biscuits, then he made himself at home in the office :D He was happy and healthy but it looked like he'd chomped through his lead and made a run for it. They kept him for a couple of hours, thinking an upset owner would be making their way around the area looking for him – they made a notice and stuck it on the wall out the front too - but no-one appeared. He rang Scampi's rescue centre for advice and they told him he had to ring the dog warden, she came out and scanned him, he lived locally but no-one was at home. She left messages and arranged for him to go to the nearest rescue place, which turned out to be where Scampi came from. I was pleased, the staff are fab so I could stop worrying, lol. Turns out the owner believes dogs shouldn't be 'trapped' in a garden and should be able to run free

Master tru is going to a halloween party, he showed me his costume last night – a werewolf. I said 'oooooh, lets see', he put the mask on and Scampi went nuts. Had to quickly stuff the mask on top of the books on the shelf in the kitchen til he left the room :D

I have quite a lot to do today and I'm not dressed yet, I'm off for a shower then I'll get stuck in.
