anyone? I know its probably a simple task for most but I have no idea.
of course I have painted skirtings and doors but a shelf will get some wear, is it just the same as painting a skirting?
any suggestions on bright red shiny paint?
    thanks.

Most shelves do not get any appreciable wear. Unless they're in a kitchen cupboard. Anyway, for a good finish give it several coats of both undercoat and gloss. Rub down with wet & dry paper between coats. You should end up with an excellent gloss finish. Just be careful not to over rub the corners.
Do it on a flat surface, not in situ.
  • Hi! I would like to inform you that using of primer promotes the top coat adhesion.

    Step by step guidance:-

    1. Remove the existing paint by using iron brush or sand paper.
    2. Clean the sanding dust.
    3. Apply the primer spray.
    4. Lightly sand the surface.
    5. Apply top coat paint.

As you want to paint metal surface, I would suggest to use rust proof paint.

I find I get the best paint finish on shelves by using a small paint roller.
