Mucky tablecloth

Options
I've just come back from hols and realised I didn't clean our tablecloth before I went - I've washed it this morning but the stains haven't come out!! It's a light coloured 100% cotton one. It says to wash at max 40 - I did 50 this morning with quite a bit of soda crystals in it and am worried that it's ruined. Any ideas for what I could do to try to save it?

Depends on what the stains are really... any idea what they are?

Otherwise try soaking for an hour in warm water with a LOT of biological washing powder and then wash again with biological powder.

  • Sorry - forgot to add that - think that they are from a tomato pasta sauce that I made (or possibly red wine?) though not entirely sure. The shame of it....
  • I've (often!) had tomato sauce stains that fail to shift in the wash totally bleach out in the sun when hung on the line. Might be worth a go.

Sorry, but sun? What's that?! Lol, thanks for the tip. I'l try that :)

I second the soaking for a while in the bio powder. Biological powder is great! That's what I usually do and I usually have a lot of mucky baby clothes!

If the stain doesn't shift by following the advice given above, then you might consider bleaching the tablecloth to a white colour. Being 100% cotton and light coloured, it shouldn't take a long soak to do that.

I once bleached a pair of light blue slacks, also pure cotton, and they came up great.

Not really environmentally friendly, but it's not like one does this everyday...
