is my electric meter faulty?

we have on of those digital meters and at the moment my meter says im on rate 2 which i understand is economy 7
i pushed the readings button and rate 2 is the only one that is going up
i pushed the button again and the time said 07.53 and then 07.54 and i stood and watched it till it went 08.00 and it was still showing rate 2. the date is correct but the time is way out by a few hours.

i have a little sticker on it that says rate 2 00.30 / 07.30 but its still showing rate 2 and 08.20.

has anyone elses meter gone cuckoo and what would you do?

Pity you didn't watch it for a bit longer till after 08:30, as we are still in British Summer Time.

but its 12pm and showing the time of 08.35

dont expect any constructive advice from espresso/cardew they are oviously employed in the energy sector all they do is put people down! if you suspect your meter is at fault you can request a meter check ,if it comes back ok you will have to pay approx £60 if its faulty it could cost you a lot more ! i personally think its worth checking.

Make your mind up! in this post you said that I was out of work and on benefits.

Your advice is incorrect. You have to pay up front for a meter test, which costs approx £90 see here The fee will only be refunded if the meter is found to be faulty. In this case the timeswitch may be faulty or simply need re-setting, although the OP is obviously getting cheap rate during the day time peak rate at the moment.

the test is not done there and then, the meter is taken away to be tested this can take upto 3 months then and only then are you charged maybe other companys charge different rates but with npower it is £60 [i have the letter in black and white!]i know this because im in the process of doing it myself. so far because of missed appointments i have recieved now £80 compensation £20 for both missed appointments and £20 because they failed to give 10 days notice that they were not comming ,so even if my meter comes back ok it will be paid for from the compensation. you are directing people to an online law site surely if you want to prove a point the link should be to the relevant power co !

how cos i thought ecomomy 7 was just 7 hours of economy rate like through the night during the hours of 00.30 till 07.30 or 01.30 till 08.30 depending on if were were in winter or summer

Say nowt Bad...your gain, just remember not to use the electric at night. Or you could ask Martin for his Moral Maze quandary.
P.s......best check Rate 2 is E7.

Hey Expresso,

I was in the energy sector for 7 years and I can honestly say I would never side with the companies as I spent everyday in that market fighting with incompetants who were clearly out of their depth in terms of brain power. And thats just the management!!!

These forums are littered with fairly easy issues to resolve and it only gets difficult when the poor bods ring up these companies!!! But then, it's not like anyone's really keeping them in line (I seem to recall Energywatch being a bit of a joke to them!)
