NPower Energy Usage Tracker

Options
I keep an eye on the Energy Usage Tracker within my NPower account as it helps to ensure I keep track of how much I am spending and more importantly whether the bills are accurate. I noticed recently that it is no longer working and I have been told that this is because I have moved onto Smart Meters. They claim that every customer that has a smart meter is unable to use the usage tracker despite their website clearly stating that 'If you’ve upgraded from a traditional meter to a Smart meter, Energy Tracker will work as normal.'.

So, my question is - can any of the NPower customers on this forum that have a smart meter use the tracker? It just doesn't make sense that the Smart Meter is the reason for it not working.

    Hi Nutmeg's Mum.

    Thanks for your post.

Smart meters should work with the Energy Tracker; however, this will depend on how recently the Smart meters were installed (can take 28 days to update) and what consent you have registered in terms of how often we obtain the readings from your Smart meter.

For example, if you have daily or half hourly readings set up, the tracker should update on the 1st of each month using the latest reading. If you have the account set up for monthly or haven't set it up yet, the readings may not pull through on the 1st of each month and therefore the tracker will be a month behind and may show estimated readings based on the readings we have obtained from the meter on a monthly basis.

    I hope this information helps.

    Kind regards

    Jess :)

estimated readings based on the readings we have obtained from the meter posted by Npower rep

What is the point of spending loads of money installing a smart meter and having it send in regular readings if the company are going to use estimates anyway?

Why can Npower not use the actual readings supplied by the meter - this is surely the whole point of the things?

EDIT - Does the word "estimated" also indicate what they are going to base the bill on - will the customer get an accurate bill based on actual readings, or a vastly inflated bill based on their idea of an estimate?
  • Wow! The information you have just given me bears absolutely no relation to the advice I was given by 5 separate customer service advisors. Not one of them mentioned the consent you are talking about. It is shocking that your customers have to come on to a public forum to get the truth. The last person I spoke to went into great detail about how your company is still developing software that will allow smart meters to work with the usage tracker. She must have been making it up as she went along. It would actually be quite funny if I wasn't a customer! Fair play to her for her imagination! :T:rotfl:

Why is it so hard to do software to bill for leccy or gas, you'd think it was a lot easier than billing and controlling mobile phones, TV and satellites - SKY seem to manage

It's a good job that they aren't let loose on computer programming for aircraft or cars.
