Concert tickets refund when a Co-Headliner pulls out

Hi All,

Ok, so I bought tickets some months ago for a Glenn Hughes/ Living Colour co-headlining show in Glasgow. Today, a couple of weeks before the show, Living Colour have pulled out of the tour, being replaced by Stone Broken who, in my opinion are nowhere near the same calibre. I only wanted to see Living Colour but doubt I'd be able to resell my ticket at anywhere near face value now one of the acts has cancelled.

Living Colour are named on my ticket, so the show is no longer as advertised. I think this is a different case to a "+ Support" ticket.
I've read the Which? guide which states this is a grey area, but I don't think Stone Broken can be classed as an "understudy" unless they play Living Colour songs. I've also read the Bon Jovi minus Richie Sambora thread, but I think the whole band changing is more fundamental than a replacement guitarist. What does everyone else think? Am I entitled to a refund?
Thanks for your thoughts :)

I've not heard of either of these but would be very miffed if I paid for to see one act and then a completely different act were put on in place of them, Write in to them and say that you are not happy and do not wish to see the replacement band as you have no interest in them and that you believe the tickets are worth less now so selling would be a difficult option to achieve your initial outlay back against.

Consumer Rights Act 2015 ... that's what'll govern your rights and options to pursue.

My opinion ... is that the basis of the contract has fundamentally changed therefore you are entitled to rescind the contract and be put back in the position as if the contract had never been engaged. i.e. a full refund of all monies paid.

Have you actually received the tickets?

Thanks Stevie. It happens regularly that a support band gets replaced, but on tickets marked as "Headliner + Support", I know I only have rights if the Headliner pulls out. In this case the Co-Headliner is named as such on the ticket, so I think its more clear cut that the event no longer fits the description I was given at time of purchase.

Thanks DoaM, that's what I think too. I have got my ticket in hand, yes. Does that make a difference do you think?

It would have made cancelling easier if you didn't have the ticket. Whether you can still cancel .... check the CRA link I posted earlier - I simply don't know the answer.
  • Try and see if you can get the refund.

Whilst I think you should get a refund I would say the event organiser will say no as the show is still going ahead with a headline act and a replacement. It will be a bit of a talking point but only a court could decide.
